Active little babba!

I had my 12 week ultrasound on Monday and baby was far too active to even get any measurements. The lady who was doing ultrasound sent me away let someone else go in and brought me back but baby was still far to active. So I have to come back Tuesday coming, did anyone else have this issue? If so did they get measurements second time around? Thanks for any replies X

Re: Active little babba!

  • @becksie93 at our 12+4 lil peanut was more like a jumping bean... already got it's dance moves from me... took about an hour, but we FINALLY got measurements... US Tech was more than a little frustrated.

  • Yup- it took forever to get the NT measurements because the baby was moving so much and because the baby wasn't in a great position to measure the back of the neck. I had to drink water and wait for the baby to move/calm down a bit.
  • Try to avoid any caffeine and sugary foods the day of your app and if possible don't eat an hour or two before. I have no idea if this can prevent active babies but I always hear to drink cold apple juice etc before an ultrasound if you want to see movement. So reverse might help?

  • Lol, my baby was the opposite at my 12 week scan. I even drank orange juice before my appointment. The tech had trouble getting the baby to move to a better position for measurements. She had me cough and turn on my side a few times to get baby to move. Hopefully your jumping bean will calm down enough at your next scan! :)
  • All I can say is...good luck  ;)) My DD was always active at the scans and that has not stopped since the day she was born. Thank goodness she was slightly smaller than average in utero because she never ever ever stopped moving...and she still doesn't. Everyone always says "boys are more active" but my word, I don't even know how that is possible when I think about how much my little girl moves. Needless to say, life is always interesting with her and keeps us on our toes!

You're not alone - This happened to me too!!  I went in for my first ultrasound on Monday 10/5.  I was told to arrive with a full bladder (it helps move baby into the right position for the screening) but baby was feeling VERY comfortable nestled in a cozy spot, and didn't want to move into a different position. After 45 minutes of ultra-sounding (is that a word? :) the technician said I should just come back later.  I was disappointed but relieved that I could empty that full bladder!
I went in again on Wednesday 10/7 - the technician said only drink 20 oz of water 1 hr before the screening.  I did that and then at the screening, baby was SUPER active!  Baby was kicking, waving, and moving its head back and forth. After 30 minutes (and some suggested coughing that didn't work), baby moved to a good position so the tech was able to get the measurements.
Now a week later, I just got my results back and everything is good. It was difficult to find time to go in twice, but on the bright side, the technician gave me an ultrasound print out from each session, so now we have two pics of our little peanut!
