Haven't had my 8 week doc apt yet. I already have 2 kids, so i hope i don't find out i am having twins lol!

Full disclosure: I'm a little bit jealous. I would looooove to have three kids, but I know my husband won't go for it, so twins this time would be the only way it would happen.

I had no idea!!! I just had an ultrasound on Monday and only saw one sac and heard one heartbeat. I went back today because I was bleeding and SURPRISE!!! Actually, I am a twin but it never crossed my mind I would have twins.

They haven't changed my due date yet. I'm actually going back on Tuesday to meet with my doctor so maybe then. She was away when I went in today.

Congrats!!! I have a friend who is an identical twin and has twin daughters. She really didn't think about that possibility either, but I think it's cool how much she'll relate to her daughters since she knows what is like to have a twin. You will have that same insight!

@MynaBird I'm with you, the only way I'm getting 3 kids is if I have twins this time. DH has already said he's getting a vasectomy after this one.

I'm a twin too lol, and I'm wondering if I might be having a set myself. I won't find out until Nov. 10th!

Yay twins! Congratulations to all moms of twins

I won't find out until at least my u/s in another 2 weeks. But I doubt we'll get twins since there are no multiples that I know of in either my family or my husband's.

Yay, twins!

I'll find out if I'm having twins on Tuesday. We had two embryos transferred on 9/23 and I'm about to go in for my first ultrasound. I'd love to be in the twin club!

I heard it has to be maternal to be passed down, do you know about that? I'm curious myself since one side of our family is all twins but it's not my mom

A father can definitely pass it to his daughter. I've done a lot of research on the chances of twins and it's definitely a possibility. You can google it & find out more about it.

During her first pregnancy, my SIL was convinced she'd have twins because there are so many twins in her husband's family. I didn't know her well enough at the time and said quite bluntly, "Well that's fine and all, but how do you expect HIS genetics to make YOU drop two eggs?" She promptly stared to cry because wanted twins so badly and hadn't thought about that before. I still feel bad to this day about the convo. (I've known her 13 years now and have been a LOT nicer since!)

Only fraternal twinning on the mom's side is proven genetic. There are several sets of ID twins in my husband's family, including my hubs/his twin and his dad/uncle. Our twins are ID, too, so maybe there is something there.

I'm pretty sure a father can pass the fraternal twin gene to his daughter.

@Bear14+ , I believe that is correct, too. When I said mom's side, I just meant the maternal side. Sorry-I did come off a bit know-it-all-ish.

CONGRATS!! @laurenc517 how far along are you? My husband and I both have sets of twin aunts... So it might be a possibility for us! Did you have any early signs of twins? My 1st ob appt is tomorrow at 7w5d.

I'm 7 weeks 5 days today. No signs but I was having minor bleeding which prompted the early sonogram.

Congrats! I had freaked myself out about an ectopic pregnancy so doc called us in for an early ultrasound to be sure everything was ok. It wasn't just ok... we are having TWINS too!

My OB says that only identical twins can pass from the father and fraternal from the mother.

Congrats!! I had a dream... no, nightmare... the other night that I was pregnant with twins. I woke up in a cold sweat and everything! Told my mom about it and she said oh don't worry, twins are genetic. Paused for a second and then listed off three sets of twins in my family! My MIL laughed and listed off two sets in hers. I'm not amused.

Well, your MIL's family has no impact on you having twins, so no worries there. Fraternal twins can be genetic because they occur from releasing more than one egg per ovulation and that can be a hormonal/genetic thing. Your husband's genetics play no role in how many eggs you release, so only twins your family count. Identical twins are not herreditary at all.
