Take it out ? Or leave it in ?

I've had my belly button pierced for 11 years and I know soon I'll have to make the decision to take it out for good or get one of those long weird plastic pregnancy belly rings.
For those of you who have had babies already and have /had this piercing what did you do ?
I have mixed feelings on what to do.

Re: Take it out ? Or leave it in ?

  • I took mine out. I didn't want to buy the weird pregnancy belly rings.

  • They are weird and look weird on a pregnant belly for sure.. I'm worried I'll regret it after I deliver though...
  • If you're going to want it after you have LO I'd get one of those pregnancy ones. Mine fell out like... 6 months after I had it pierced at 18. I didn't really even want it in the first place but... whatever, and it is still basically a hole (9 years later) and looks weird after having DD.

My OB was super judgemental when she saw mine at the first appointment! Lecture with raised eyebrows and everything. So I'm leaving it in as long as possible just to spite her. Because I'm 5.
But yeah when it needs to come out that will be the end of it. It had a good run :)

I see a lot of them in the ob office I work at and have never even batted an eye at the ones that choose to keep one in. What a odd thing for the ob to side eye!
  • Leave it in as long as you can. I took mine out preemptively and it closed up. Turns out I had an innie all the way til delivery and could have kept it in that whole time.

Every time I see your name on here I think about how much I love peaches.
  • Don't get me started on peach season being over. Get it together genetically modified fruits and keep peaches year round. Especially white peaches. Humph

  • Leave it in until its uncomfortable! I was able to leave mine in until 7 or 8 months with DD. I put it back in as soon as I left the hospital :)

  • My mother and I both ha(d) one. She took hers out when it got uncomfortable, and mine actually got infected about a month and a half into my second pregnancy.
  • Take it out!!! My hole got so stretched out and my belly button will never be the same!! Although I did have mine out a couple years before I got pregnant so I guess it's kind of a moot point. But ugh. It ruined me!

  • I pierced it 15 years ago now and haven't worn any jewelry for at least 20 years. The hole is still there. I did freak out about it with my first kid. My OB told me it had to come out or it would tear. So I took embroidery thread and tied it in thereto ensure the hole stayed
  • I took mine out. Hole still there but I've been too scared to try it!
  • I took mine out when you could see it through my shirt. It is partially closed but it looks weird still because it stretched out with my continuing growing belly with DD.
  • I took mine out probably 5 months into my first pregnancy.  I was glad I did as by the end of the pregnancy my belly button was so stretched that it was close to popping out.
  • Darn- didn't even realize there were options for keeping it in. I just had mine removed after 14 years.

    @Jhmb2012 - love your approach!
