PIO - easing the discomfort?

Hi,

This is my 3rd FET cycle.  The first 2 the PIO shots were a pain but I had no discomfort. 

This time around, it feels like there are hard masses under the skin at each injection site and uncontrollable itching.  OMG the itchiness is driving me crazy.

If your on PIO, what is your method for reducing the side effects and discomfort?

    The masses are probably deposits of progesterone that weren't dispersed fully. I started to get a few of those, even after 10 minutes of rubbing.
    What worked best for me was rubbing for 5 minutes and then using a heating pad on the area for 15 minutes on medium. It eventually helped disperse the lumps I had.
    ***Trying to conceive since 9/12- m/c 2/13 from natural conception.
    IVF success 10/14 with m/c 11/14. FET success 4/15***

    No, I just used my hand but it wasn't working well enough. Our doctor gave us the ok to use the heating pad on medium to help.
    My back was still sore for a few weeks after the shots were done but it wasn't too bad.

    The itchiness could be a sign of an allergy.  I didn't develop my allergy until 6weeks, and they had to switch me to an oral prometrium.  The itchiness can develop into cellulitis (skin infection).  Definitely let your Dr. know.  :)

    I had horrible itchiness and a rash on my bum, and since my RE thinks PIO is the best he wouldn't switch me off of it. He did give me the ok to take benadryl and that helped. I also get hard masses from time to time and PP is right, a heating pad works wonders! Hot showers after help too. Good luck!

    I agree, rub the PIO in after injecting, I usually rub the spot right away for about ten minutes to disperse the oil.

    Also, do you put the PIO vial in your bra to warm it before drawing it up? I find the oil goes in a lot faster and better when it is warm and less chance of welts.

    I agree the itchy part could be an allergy since I never have itching from all of my cycles with PIO.

    Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I never had itchiness in my 2 previous cycles, but perhaps I've started to have a reaction.

    I'll contact my RE and see what they say.

    I did the bra trick and the heating pad. I still got itchiness, lumpiness and a numb spot. I just opted to grin and bear it. Wish i had more to offer than that. Lol.

    I didn't have itchiness either but I do have what feels like burning sometimes now when my husband does my shots. Talk about painful. I only have about 2 weeks left. Anyone else have a burning sensation towards the end?

    OH the BURNING it's been awful.

    The shots have been so painful this time around and we push through but DH is talking about having to inject into my thigh instead and I'm terrified of doing that.  I just think it will hurt so much more.

    I'm so glad it's not just me! I was a little worried since it hasn't been happening until lately.

    I have heard people that do it in the thigh end up going back to the butt because its terrible. How much longer do you have @BabyVDM ? I know I've just been pushing through too. The thigh scares me too much lol

    I'm only 5w5d along and need to continue the shots until 10 weeks. So 30 more doses I think.

    BabyVDM- do not inject it into your thigh, you won't be able to walk! 

    I complained of pain and my MD got me smaller needles for the injection, made a HUGE difference, but it made getting the meds out of the needle a lot harder! My husband really has to push hard but my butt is mostly pain free!

    I haven't don't the shots in 8 weeks and I can still feel the injection sites (some of them). One of them must have been close to a nerve so I had a numb patch. Now it tingles and aches since it is healing up and gives me weird dreams of having gaping wounds back there. Lol. Either way, I am ok with them. My littles are still in there and growing well. The shots did their job.

    Identical experience here! No reaction during my fresh cycle, but both FET cycles have been awful!
    My dr wants me to switch to a different oil, but I'd like a BFP first, to make it worth the cost.
    No help here, just wanted to say you're not alone trying to itch your butt ALL.DAY.LONG!

    I asked for the vaginal suppository. I was sooo over all the injections, I just didn't want to do anymore. The VS wasn't horrible by any means. Definitely messy, but I would take that any day over more injections. Plus, my numbers for progesterone were off the carts after my first positive blood test that I was able to stop them! Good luck!
