Ninth-month "Wow...this is really happening!" realizations

Just formatted and then printed my birth plan today, at 38 weeks and 4 days. I had been working on it for at least a couple months. I finished packing my hospital bag (except for a few things I hope to add) a few days ago, but had forgotten that my birth plan wasn't printed yet! I've been so focused on other preparations but was missing something pretty important to me! :/ Anyway, finalizing amd printing that plan made me realize yet again how very close I am to having this baby! Other "Wow" moments for me were arranging his baby clothes, picking clothes for him to take to the hospital, installing the carseat.

What are your "Wow...it's really happening!" moments?

  • Love it. :) Still waiting for the "wow, we are close!" moment. Not sure if it is because this is #3 or if it is because I figure I will go at least a week late but having trouble feeling real ready. Lol.

  • Haha, @NathanheartsKim! I think it could really be because of both reasons! As a mom of two you have plenty to distract you, and that sense of realism about the fact baby could go past due date tends to reduce excitement a little until you get closer to 41 weeks!

How many weeks are you? I know I still have plenty of time left for baby to come without going past 40 weeks, but right now I also think it is likely he will go over. Despite having his head low a week ago, today at my appointment he was head down but curled up in a tight ball. Baby, I want your head bearing down so we can get things ready..lol.
  • Been ready since 37 weeks but little guy seems to be content hoping I won't have to be induced but don't want to go over 41 weeks due to the whole thing with the placenta and umbilical cord getting old. I'll be 40 weeks on Saturday and haven't had any contractions or BH just pressure.
  • @Sballerina 38 weeks yesterday. EDD is the 28th. I highly doubt this will be an October baby though. Might surprise me though. ;) Midwife was surprised at how low baby was but also said baby was curled up, very comfy. :)
  • Ah ok, @NathanheartsKim , we are 4 days apart in EDDs. Cool!

I am doing some of the things recommended on spinningbabies.com to encourage baby to get in an ideal position and to try to make my uterus and hips as symmetrical as they can. Even simply crossing the legs and slouching can cause tightness or twists in the lower uterus that may prevent enough room for baby to settle and engage.
  • @NathanheartsKim we have the same due date! I haven't met anyone on here with the same yet. Are you dilated at all? If my lil man isn't here by next week I will meet him Saturday, the 24th.
  • @sballerina Yes! Love Spinningbabies. :)@dawnmarie0310 Fun! No checks. :) I have friends who have been dilated to a 5 and didn't go into labor for over a week so I am actually glad they don't do checks. I don't want to know. Lol. How exciting to meet baby so soon! My first two were late so this one will probably be late too. :)
  • Yikes. Checks just make me feel better about knowing where I was last I suppose. I live and work about an hour away from the hospital so I get to go in 30 mins after contractions start lol but my daughter came 12 days late and son came 12 days early. So this one I'm just waiting...... Impatiently lol
  • Haha. I guess everyone feels different about cervical checks. I have the same attitude as @NathanheartsKim : I don't want to know, at least not unless I go over 40 weeks and a few days. My office has not asked to check and I would politely refuse the check anyway. Baby will come when God wants him to come, and I don't want to get either too excited or too discouraged just in response to a number.

I'm being induced next week. I'm feeling about as ready as I can be. Baby stuff ready to go, birth plan and bag packed, frozen food in the fridge, house is clean. I'm now just waiting. I'm hoping I go into labor on my own first but there aren't any signs of that happening. My doctor also doesn't seem to do any cervical checks. She checked me when they did my GBS swab a couple weeks ago but nothing since.

I work from home and am self-employed but have tied up all my loose ends and have my assistant covering everything for me until I'm ready to start working again when he's about 4 weeks old.

So things are slow around here. Slow enough that I cooked a pot roast today and have packed up several bags to take to Goodwill tomorrow.

Next week I'm meeting with someone who does car seat checks. That's the only thing I can think of that's left to do!
