Earlier ultrasound?

Hi Everyone!

This is my first pregnancy. My (new) physician group at the local healthcare system usually only give ultrasounds at 20 weeks (anatomy scan) unless you get the NT at 12-13 weeks and no doppler for heartbeat until the 12 week appointment.:( I have been so anxious about miscarrying so far due to my lack of pregnancy symptoms that I have trouble sleeping and wake up with nightmares.I really want to have an earlier ultrasound just to calm myself down...any tips for talking to my provider about this? Unfortunately, due to my insurance I don't have the option of going elsewhere.

Thanks!

Re: Earlier ultrasound?

  • Can you just tell them your concerns?

  • I told my OB I had pressure in the bum lol and she is giving me an ultrasound. 5w5d. I think it was just constipation LOL but I'm going for it anyway. Feel fine now. Otherwise was going for first appointment at 8 weeks, but doing this just in case.
  • Just explain to your dr that you are experiencing severe anxiety and see if they will at least check the heartbeat for you. If not, is there like a private ultrasound clinic you could go to for an earlier ultrasound? It would cost a bit out of pocket but might be worth it for the peace of mind.

Most private u/s clinics are not run by trained techs and if something is wrong they won't know what to tell you. All the ones I know of wont even see you until 15 weeks.

I had one early with DS1 because I had sharp pains on my right side, near my ovary. OB wanted to make sure the pregnancy wasn't ectopic. I am sorry you're having such anxiety. I'd talk to your OB about this.
