My mom was three weeks overdue with me, and had to be induced. I'm told I can basically guarantee being overdue with my LO because of this. Have your births gone like your mother's?
No. My mom had unmedicated vaginal births for both my brother and I. My daughter went into fetal distress when I was only 3 cm dilated and had to be delivered via emergancy c-section. My mom was also 3 weeks late for me and on bedrest for 6 months. I was only 1 week late and no bedrest.
Nope. My mother had a mildly long birth with me after going over the 40 week mark. I was induced at 37 with my DD and after 24+ hours and a failed epidural, I had to have an emergency c-section.
I don't think genetics really play into the way we give birth.
I guess you could say yes. Her first was two weeks early, my first was two weeks early. She had quick active labors, I had quick labors.
I guess where it is different is that for her first she was having contractions that she could feel for a couple of days before she was in active labor and then she was only in labor for a couple of hours before my brother was born. My son was born 3 hours after the first contraction I even felt.
She took me and my brother within a couple of days of our due dates, but I was induced at 37 weeks with my second, but I was told I wouldn't have gone any more than a week more if I hadn't been induced. We will see with this one, I may be getting induced again.
With me my mom's water broke at 36 weeks labor did not start on its own so she was induced. With my sister she went into labor at 36 weeks. She had both of us med free and my sister was just under 10 lbs (they are pretty sure my mom had GD with my sister )
When I had DS. I went into labor at almost 42 weeks, but had to have a C section because I stopped progressing. Oddly enough my birth experience was very similar to my aunts. (Both our boys were overdue and both of us needed CS because our baby's heads were stuck in our pelvics)

Did your doctor tell you this? Or some little old ladies? Genuinely interested. I'd be wary of any medical professional who claimed to guarantee anything about labor/delivery.
Me: 28, DH: 40 Married 9/28/13 DS born 11/12/15 EDD 8/13/18
Nope. My mom had me 2 1/2 weeks early due to car accident and they had to break her water for her. I had DD1 a week and 5 days early due to pre-eclampsia, and this one will be (unless she comes on her own before this) here a week early due to some medical problems I have, both c-sections.
I think I will go like my mom. 3 out of 4 were overdue and induced. Actually 4 out if 4 overdue but my sister was only over a few days. I was induced with my first, for medical issues. This one I am hoping I will go naturally but don't have high hopes. I also have big babies like mom her smallest was 8lbs I was her biggest at 9lbs 12 oz. DD was 9lbs 10oz
I was born 3 days early I believe. However, on Monday my doctor is doing one last ultra sound on Monday to check on a couple of things and has mentioned I may induced next week.
And my sister was born 6 weeks early, and I'm already 37 wks 3 days so that's out too.
I could be wrong, but I think that's one of the old wives tales.
I have two siblings. One of us was early, one on the due date, and one late. My brother was a very long labor and I came in such a hurry I was almost born in the car on the way to the hospital. It seems to me pregnancy is so inconsistent in one person, it couldn't possibly be consistent between two people.
No. She was 2wks late with both my sister and I and was induced with my sister. I delivered my son without induction at 36w6d. The only thing the same is we both managed to avoid epiderals and Csections. I can't speak for my second labor here quite yet though!
Yes, sort of. My mom was 2 weeks overdue and 2.5 weeks overdue with 2 kids (not induced). No issue. I was 10 days overdue and induced, also no issues. Actually, most of the women in my maternal side of the family tend to be overdue and also have minimal issues w/ childbirth. My grandmothers also had very large families so likely minimal issues but I have no idea if they were early or late.
I have also heard that genetics can play a role into your gestational length (like if you go early or late). IMO, I think it makes sense for there to be some genetic aspect in play however there are so many other factors that can affect your pregnancy, so even if it is true, it would be just one piece of the puzzle.
Hoping it won't be like my mom's was with any of my siblings. Sections for three all of us. The first because he was breech and her water broke. She never dilated with me and I went overdue. And then I think they found out with my brother she wouldn't actually be able to deliver vaginally as her pelvis opening was incredibly small or weirdly angled or something.
No. My first wasn't. My midwife said she's doesn't usually see a connection between mom and daughter but she said sisters usually have similar types of births. So if you have a sister you might want to compare...
Not even close! My mom went into labor a couple days after her edd. I delivered at 34 weeks. Well the only thing that was the same was neither one of us had ms with any pregnancy.

---- quote fail ------
A few little old ladies, some friends and my doula. My doc didn't ask about my mother's labor or say anything about a connection. Just curious.

Nope. My mom's water broke and then my older brother was born 6 hours later. With me, her water broke and I was born 4 hours later. We were both 2 weeks early. With my son, my water broke a week prior to my due date. I got stuck at 2 cm dilated and got put on pitocin. Water broke at 4 am, son delivered at 7:30 pm so quite not exactly only a 6 or 4 hour labor.
These are interesting.. I'm a FTM so I don't know yet, but curious to see! She had five of us though so I'm bound to be somewhat similar to at least one of them pregnancies! So far though my pregnancy has been so similar to how she describes hers; symptoms and weight gain.
Yes for me my first pregnncy and delivery were very similar to my moms first (delivered at 39+4) and had long labors. So far my pregnancy is similar to her second and we will see as far as delivery.
I can't decide if my mother's pregnancy is actually worth going off of in terms of what to expect since testimonials seem to be all over the place. Hopefully my delivery is easier than hers...she had an emergency C. FTM but I have almost nothing else in common with her so I'm curious to see.
My mom went 2 weeks early with all three of us, so I'm definitely curious to see how mine goes. It would be nice not to end up overdue! Although, my theory is that since she's only 5 feet tall, her body just decided it couldn't fit a bigger baby and went into labor. My sister was 6.5 lbs, my brother was 7lbs and I was a long and skinny 7lbs 6oz. I'm just hoping baby doesn't end up with DH's big head...
As a FTM and knowing how my moms birth with me was.. Goodness gracious I hope not.. My middle brother and I were both 10lb babies and my youngest brother was 6lbs 6oz.. None of us induced.. I was born on what was suppose to be a scheduled C-Section day.. My mom got to the hospital.. Her water broke.. I was breech but when they checked to see if anything had changed i had flipped what they are sure was that day just hours before her water broke since the day before I was breech still.. Labor with me was a total of 13 hours... My middle brother came right on his due date.. Labor was a total of 7 hours. And my youngest brother was either 4 or 5 weeks early.. Labor was around 7 hours again.. I wouldn't mind if he comes on his due date.. That would be nice!!
