Items for a newborn

Hey all you mummies!

Im an 18 year old first time mother (due in november)
And would like to know what to purchase for my daughter as a newborn, i haven't the slighest idea i obviously have all the basics, like a cot, moses basket, rocker, swing, change table, high chair and pram/capsule set etc.
But i was wondering what else is really helpful to have and what you mummies sware by?

Thankyou all so much in advanced for helping me out.
I did know and have everything organised for if i ever became pregnant but i moved and lost the list and baby brain has gotten me bad.. :(

Re: Items for a newborn

  • If you are breast feeding the boppie pillow is the balm but only use it to breast feed do not leave the baby asleep on it and by all means read all the instructions I could not do without it and my little 4 week old Lily loves it she knows once she lays on this pillow it's time to eat

Someone once told me that all you really need to bring a baby home from the hospital is a car seat and a blanket. And, I think there is a lot of wisdom in that. Keep it simple! I found that the less baby stuff I had around the easier it was to function, because my house wasn't so full of stuff!
That being said my favorite baby items were: The rock and play, Zutano booties, swaddle-me's and prefold cloth diapers (great even if you're not cloth diapering for burp cloths and clean ups).
    Congrats on your little one!

  • I agree that you don't need a whole lot. Lots of clothes in different sizes. They grow out of clothes fast but there are so many diaper explosions and spit ups, you'll probably be changing outfits during the day. Also diapers, lots of diapers.
  • Easy storage solutions is my advice- check out Pinterest for ideas- everything within arms reach of the changing table.
Also- if you don't have one already- an infant first aid kit - thermometer, nail clippers, baby Tylenol, gas drops (target brand makes a good one), diaper rash cream, baby Vicks, these are things you want to have on hand & not need to run to the store for.
    Congrats on the baby!
  • So baby doesn't need a crib for a while? What do they sleep in?? And what's a glider? Really am clueless about this I'm about to be a ftm and books are just not helping
  • We had lo in a bassinet next to our bed for the first month or so but by 2nd month moved him into the crib. He was a very active noisy sleeper and we both did better with him in the nursery with the moniter. Every mom and baby are different tho. My friend had hers in a rock and play next to her bed until like 5 or 6 months.
  • Is there anything that's actually best for day 1? Can you put baby in crib from the start or it is easier for feeding to be in parents bedroom? Im sure this is all things I'll figure out once baby's here but it's very confusing right now

  • We tried having baby sleep in her crib in our room from the start, but she slept better in her bassinet beside me. Every baby is different. You'll find out what works for you. Don't worry too much about it!

One thing that was a must have for me was a baby carrier. I have a moby style baby wrap. Once I figured out how to tie it (watching videos online helped), it has become something I use with baby everyday. Baby wanted to be held 24-7. The wrap gave my arms a rest and let me eat or catch up on chores.
  • Bottle warmer! I'm bf but on those late night feelings I have my husband help out and the warmer has been a life saver. Mine was 16.97 from Walmart. Works great :)
