Cavities?

I went to the dentist last week (before I found out I was pregnant) and found out that I have SIX cavities! This was a big surprise because I take great care of my teeth (I brush, floss, and use fluoride mouthwash every day) and I haven't had any cavities in a few years. I talked to the dental hygienist and she said that she's heard of people getting a lot of cavities unexpectedly after they've had a baby. I had never heard of this! Has anyone else experienced this or heard of it?

Re: Cavities?

  • I have not heard it to this extent, but I've heard pregnancy hormones can affect oral health and lead to higher risk of gingivitis, so it's plausible.

Kind of tangential but dental health related (not trying to hijack the thread, just don't want to add another teeth thread).  Can being pregnant make your teeth more sensitive because my teeth have been super sensitive to temperature and pressure for the past few days.  No idea if it is related but figured I would see while the teeth topic is up for discussion.

ETA - pregnant women tend to have bleeding gums more often than their non-pregnant counterparts because of increased blood flow.  That's all i've heard re. teeth and pregnancy.
