STM: When did you gain the most weight?

Hi Ladies,
I am a FTM and am 33 weeks and I have gained about 12kg (sorry Aussie here) which is roughly 26 lbs. I was shooting for a 32 lb total weight gain but now I feel like that's not going to happen which is fine as long as my baby boy is strong and healthy! But wondering if i have already put on the majority of the weight or if i will balloon in the last 4 weeks etc. For STMs, was there a time in your pregnancy where you gained the most weight? Like was it the 3rd trimester, between 20-30 weeks, last 4 weeks, etc. I know everybody is different, but I'd just like to know when you gained the most weight during pregnancy.
Thanks

Re: STM: When did you gain the most weight?

  • Most of the weight you'll gain these last few weeks (average 1-1.5 lbs a week) will be the baby. The last week or so many women also stop gaining or maybe even lose a pound or two. Honestly if you were a healthy weight pre-baby, you eat right and get some exercise the weight should come right off. It also tends to be easier for younger moms and moms who are breastfeeding to lose the extra pounds. although it is not scientifically proven,

  • My weight jumped between 34-36 weeks. I was trying to increase my weight by adding extra protein though, so I'm not sure if that's an average time for weight to jump.
  • My weight gain was huge 2 months ago I had gained 5kgs in s month since then I've gained none! So crazy! Guessing baby is ok as they haven't said anything to me about it!
  • With ds 2 I gained the most between 32-37 . I believe It was a good 6 pounds then a pound each week till 40

  • I'm actually gaining (finally) at about a pound a week (I'm 35 weeks) And most of it is Oliver, he's been gaining a pound, pound and a half a week.
  • I'm 33 weeks and I pretty much stopped gaining a month ago. But I'm overweight already. I've gained 40 lbs so far this time!
  • I gained a lot second trimester, and now I am losing or only gaining a pound. I did with my first two gain water weight the last few weeks, and got very puffy! Each pregnancy has been very different, sorry not a real answer for you!
  • I'm a first timer, but I hadn't gained any weight for almost 5 or 6 weeks, and then this past checkup I'd finally put on a pound. I'm 33+2 and have gained about 30 total thus far.

As long as doc isn't worried, I wouldn't worry!
  • I held pretty steady with this baby up until a couple weeks ago, then my weight jumped (3lb in 4 days!). Given how swollen my ankles and hands are, though, the midwife says it's mostly water weight. 34+2.

  • Most weight I gain is in the last month. I've probably gained about 10 lbs this pregnancy and will gain 2-3 more lbs in the next 2-3 final weeks
  • Both times I had a big jump mid-third trimester (33-35 weeks)...like 4-5 lbs in a 2 week time frame.

After that I stayed pretty steady at 1 lb per week.  Last pregnancy I gained 28-30 lbs and this one I am on track for the same or maybe a little more.  I also didn't have any swelling issues, which can cause a lot of weight gain at the end.

  • I had a big jump from week 22 to 30. (+12 pounds) But then I lost a few pounds in the following 2 weeks (-4 pounds) and gained back 1 pound in the following 2 weeks.

Pretty weird, but I am not overthinking it.

  • With DS, I gained most of my weight in the second trimester.  So far, the same thing is happening with this pregnancy (I'm almost 36 weeks now).  I've slowed back down to a smaller, steady amount weight gain in the third trimester.  My OB said that all women are different in how their bodies respond to pregnancy.  So long as the weight gain is reasonable and healthy overall, he said not to worry.
  • With DD I gained pretty evenly throughout and definitely didn't have a jump in third trimester. I think I gained 30 overall. As a STM I second the advice to eat when hungry and try to be healthy, but really try not to think about the scale. Enjoy treats and try to enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy! Your body knows what it needs as far as weight gain and distribution!
