Pack n play sheets safe?

I'm a FTM so this might be a silly question but we registered for the graco nimble nook pack and play and the graco play yard sheets but after opening the pack n play and assembling the bassinet feature it says never use play yard sheets on mattress in bold letters.... So are the sheets unnecessary or unsafe? Why do they sell them if the product says not to use them?

Re: Pack n play sheets safe?

  • When we got our pack and play the lady at babies r us suggested we get the sheets. Not only because they are soft but also warmer (our mattress is a plastic like material). I think the concern is that you need to use play yard sheets and not regular ones because then you avoid the risk of the sheets scrunching up and causing issues for suffocation.

Does it say never use the play yard sheets on the play yard mattress or on just a regular crib mattress?  The play yard and the (typical) crib mattress are very different sizes so that may be the issue.

  • Here is a picture of the side of the play yard.
  • The only thing I can think of is that my pack and play had a hard thin base the play yard sheets went on and had separate optional mattress you could purchase. The base that came with the p&p wad only about 1/4 thick and the sheets fit it very snuggly. I could see those sheets popping right off any mattress.
Maybe try calling customer service to see exactly what the warning means.

  • Good catch! I just assembled my Nimble Nook and didn't notice that #:-S

It's specifically says it on the bassinet insert so I'm thinking it means not to use the play yard sheets when you're using it as a bassinet because the mattress is all folded up causing the sheet to be looser.

Mine says you can use any pack and play sheets made by graco as they will fit snugly. I bought and washed some waterproof sheets for my pack and play - I'll need to see how snugly they fit. Thanks for bringing this up.
  • I didn't think about this at all. Now I need to check our pack n play. I bought sheets but haven't washed or checked if they fit.

  • Hmmm I have a pack and play set up and got sheets from target specifically for a pack and play. The sheet is snug and thin, I don't like the idea of the baby laying on that plastic like material.
  • I do in home childcare and am registered so we have a dhs worker who stops in un announced at least 1-2 times a year. I have one of the pickiest dhs inspectors and we are supposed to use sheets which wouldn't be the case if they were deemed un-safe. So as long as you are using pack n play sheets rather than crib sheets you should be fine.
  • I have always used sheets in the PNP, those that are specifically made for it. I don't know if you have the actual PNP mattress or just the pad that comes with it, I'm not clear. My understanding was that the PNP mattresses weren't considered all that safe to begin with, but it's a personal preference. We just use the pad that comes with the PNP and the sheets that go with it.

I lurk. I snark. I offer sound advice if you're not BSC. You may not like me. I'm okay with it.
