Birth control after having baby?

i am pumping and giving formula. What kind of birth control can you on?

Re: Birth control after having baby?

  • Baby cannot have anything with estrogen in it. You can choose the mini pill, depo shot, nexplanon, copper IUD of husband gets a visectomy. Others might know more.

I plan on depo until DH gets s vasectomy.

  • We plan to use condoms and I'll track my cycle once my period comes back so we can get away with not using them at times. We plan on trying for our next baby in a year and a half so I didn't want to go on anything in the meantime.

Condoms worked great for us the year before we started trying after I went off the pill. Two months after we "pulled the goalie" we got pregnant, so the condoms must have been reliable! We don't really like them, but I don't like how hormonal methods mess with my cycle and I feel better without them.
  • I am breastfeeding and taking the pill. Progesterone only pill is fine while breastfeeding *but* my doctor said as soon as I stop breastfeeding to inform him because I will need to go on a progesterone and estrogen pill. I guess if you aren't breastfeeding the progesterone only pill is 30% less effective in preventing pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding though it's just effective as any other pill. Just thought that was something to keep in mind since I don't want to get pregnant by accident when I stop breastfeeding!
  • Anyone getting or have had the Mierna IUD? I am pretty set on getting the nexplanon (despite the mixed reviews). But am looking at the Mierna as plan B if my body doesn't respond well to the nexplanon.
  • I'm on the Nora Be pill. Sucks to have to try and remember to take it daily after a year of no BC, but it's progesterone only so it's ok for BFing which I plan to do for a year hopefully.
  • I got the Mirena after our first and plan to again.
