Share your early pregnancy tips here...

Every pregnancy seems to be different, but I figured that we could share a couple of tips learned through our experience, friends, etc. Looking at today's thread, it looks like a lot of you ladies are already nauseated and/or receiving regular visits from the vomit fairy. I had MS all through my last pregnancy, and it loved to strike at the office, where I was desperately trying to keep my pregnancy secret under wraps (and not be heard puking in the stall). My solution? A big ol' bag of Jolly Ranchers. I would suck on them all day long and it would help, and it made my office a popular place to come visit--a side bonus. With Halloween close, it'd be easy to score a huge stash of hard candies.

Do you have any early pregnancy tips?

  • Thanks for the tip! I'm on my way to get some Jolly Ranchers!

  • Keep a snack like saltines or pretzels handy at all times. In your purse, in the car, on your nightstand. Hunger would come over me quickly and unexpectedly and before I knew it, I was nauseated from being so hungry.
  • I have jolly ranchers in my purse, diaper bag, on my nightstand, in my desk at work, in the pantry, and in my car (they melted in the heat :(( )

  • Prenatals at night and some crackers on the nightstand. Eat a few before your feet even hit the floor in the am!

  • I was using those Preggie pops and I think they already gave me a cavity LOL
  • I also leave crackers on my nightstand. I tend to get nauseous in the middle of the night, especially if I haven't eaten since dinner. A few crackers usually help or whatever you can stomach. My friend left pop tarts and that worked for her.

  • Do your best to keep up with cleaning your shower now. It will only get harder as we go! My shower was so unbelievably discussing by the time I had the time/energy to actually clean it about 8 weeks after my CS with DS.

I'm getting a house cleaner this time :)

  • I woke up so nauseous from being hungry that I was thinking of @jerseybroadwaybaby and her saltines as a ran dry heaving my empty stomach all the way to the toilet.

    Lesson learned.

  • Most people captured mine.  My big one is always having a snack in your purse.  I'd keep crackers or a granola bar or something.  If you don't it will only take a time or two of being without to get on board with this plan. :)

Also, take time to rest (it's exhausting creating a new life and a whole new organ--placenta!).  Let yourself rest and ask for help if you have someone who could help.

This week has been horrible. All day sickness and puking occasionally. And on top of it this nasty metallic taste in my mouth that will not go away (and seems to get worse when I eat sweets or carbs). Yesterday I brought progresso chickarina soup for lunch and felt so much better after, which was great because nothing else I've eaten the past two days has settled my stomach. I still had the bad taste but chewing gum or sucking on preggie drops seems to help it at least temporarily. Any other suggestions for the awful taste?

  • Do not buy generic/store brand hemorrhoid products. Use Preparation H and only Preparation H. Trust me.

  • Always have something ready for when the Vomit Fairy arrives. She may strike at anytime, and it's best to have bags/buckets ready for her blitz.

  • I've not had nausea yet but my boobs kill! During the day they aren't so bad but at night if I roll over on them it has woken me up... Any tips on sleeping with these sucksrs without feeling like someone took a bAseball bat to them..
  • From my first two pregnancies I learned:

-sour candies and mint tea are a Godsend

-in my purse always have a puke bag, sour candy, something salty, and a protein source.

-ask my husband to cook and stay in the other room so I don't smell it.

    -walk and stay active

  • Do kegals!! My best friend is 38 weeks and said she's the only pregnant person she knows who hasn't accidentally peed herself! She started early and does them everyday! I've also read they REALLY help with delivery and recovery.

Seriously! I didn't do them enough with DD and I'm still paying the price

  • Someone mentioned prenatals at night - I counter only with food. It took me way to long to clue in that if I didn't take my prenatal with food (no matter what time) it would make me sick.

I keep doggy bags in my bag for puke bags.

It's not a bad time to get into a habit of moisturizing or using an oil for your belly - while they're not guaranteed, making it a habit now helps down the road.

Don't even try to use an at home Doppler until you've heard baby's heart beat on a Doppler (10-12 weeks). (Aloe gel or KY lube work and are cheaper than the fancy ones you can buy on Amazon to use the Doppler. And aloe smells nice and is good for your skin!).

I love that you figured out that KY works well. :) Lol

  • Don't be afraid to tell those you are close to you are pregnant. They are the people you will need if something happens.

Don't beat yourself up if you don't take pictures every week or chronicle every second of your pregnancy like others do. I only took a picture about once a month in the beginning because it was way more fun to see the BIG differences.

    This was my nausea cure
image I have one if these for about every coat pocket/ purse I have.

Also prenantals without iron, if you are not having iron problems help big time in not feeling sick from prenatals.

Edit I'm sorry not sure why the pic is huge.
  • Lemon drops, puke bags and water stashed everywhere. I also recommend taking a probiotic. I had a yeast infection almost my entire pregnancy each time. That is how I knew I was pregnant the last time. This time, none yet! Besides, it helps with bloat and constipation, not to mention all of the other great things probiotics do.
