LO still not stretching out night feedings

I need any advice I can get. DD is still eating every 2.5-4 hours at night. I physically don't know how much longer I can do this. I have never been so consistently exhausted. She is 15 weeks today and have gone 5-7 hours at night about 5 times in the last two months. I EBF and those few times I had to pump anyways because I wa engorged and in pain since it was such a rare thing. Am I the only one whose LO is still waking up to eat this often? Does anyone have advice on what I can do to get her to go longer periods? I try to get her back to sleep without feeding her, but she wakes up after a few minutes if I don't feed her. Once I feed her she goes back to sleep for a couple hours. I feed her every 3-3.5 hours during the day. I only let her go 3.5 hours if she's sleeping.

  • Apparently they should only nap 1.5 hours during the day and 1.5 hours awake. But then again, I hate waking up a sleeping baby
  • My DD sleeps plenty, and has been this way since birth. I used to have have to wake her for almost every feed. Now she sleeps about 10-12 hours with 1 MOTN and last night she slept 9 1/2 straight hours without a feed. However, she eats about every 2-3 during the day with the exception of her 1 long afternoon nap. I always think it would be nice if she stretched out her feedings during the day, but then she prob won't sleep as good at night.

EBF babies need to eat more often bc BM digests quicker. So they get hungry pretty often. I EBF and had many nights debating whether or not I should wake her. But her ped told me to let her sleep bc she is gaining plenty.
  • My LO wakes every 2 hours on the dot to nurse at night, sometimes more. He nurses on one breast, falls asleep, so I wake him up by changing him and try to get him to nurse again and he won't take it. Twice since he was born, he slept 4 hours. That's right, 2 times in 14 weeks!

He's gaining plenty of weight and it's not a supply issue. I've tried bed sharing which doesn't stretch out his feeds, but it allows me to get more sleep. I'm back to working 12 hour long day shifts and have to be awake at 5am and not getting home til 8pm two days a week, so that's fun.

I think I've become used to only sleeping two hours at a time, but I'll take most any suggestion to get more sleep!

  • No suggestions, but this makes me feel better! I've been pretty sad reading about everyone else's babies sleeping 10 to 12 hours!
  • My baby is the same way at 15 weeks. One time when she was 6 weeks old she slept for 7 hours straight and I thought for sure she would be a baby that slept through the night early on. No such luck. My brother and his wife got all 3 of their kids to sleep 12 hours by 12 weeks by following baby wise. I don't know what it all entails or if it's even too late to start implementing it.

I followed Baby Wise with both kids. My first slept 11 hours by 12 weeks and is still a great sleeper. It's obviously not working with DD2! What I find the most strange is for her first 3 weeks, she mostly gave me 4-5 hour stretches. Me and DH kept saying how awesome it was and hoe lucky we were. I don't know what happened!

  • My LO wakes up every 2-3 hours; I sympathize!!

Cosleeping is the only reason I function so well. We have tried both cosleeping and LO sleeping in her bassinet or crib.

There is a difference between me waking up and me getting up. When we cosleep, I only wake up to nurse her. When she sleeps in her bassinet, I have to get up. Somehow, that second month when she slept in her bassinet every night -- I felt like I got half as much sleep as I would while cosleeping. So we are now back to cosleeping and I feel human again.

    Best of luck to you.

Haha I keep telling my husband that! He complains how tired he is because he gets woken up. I get so angry because he's not up for a half hour for feedings! Thanks for the suggestion. I'm too scared to cosleep.

  • I was terrified to co-sleep until I researched it.  If you want good info, start here:

  • Same here two days away from 15 weeks and she still wakes up every 2-3 hours, well she started again about a week ago she was at one MOTN feeding but idk why suddenly she is back to constantly waking up. :(
