Safe to paint nursery?

Hi ladies, I'm usually the one that does all the painting in our house (mostly because my husband is a terrible painter). I've been doing some research on if its safe to paint while pregnant... The answers are mixed. I don't want to pay someone to paint, did any of you paint while pregnant?

    I have personally been painting some furniture recently and helped my 7-months pregnant sister paint an entire house in the heat of the summer. I'm fairly laid-back, but if you do paint just make sure you open all the windows and take plenty of breaks when you feel you need them. I believe they also make lower fume paint now, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

    My OB says go for it just make sure it's a ventilated space and you stay hydrated as you work. It doesn't seem like a work out but if you think of it as "low weight, high reps" it helps me remember to take breaks and drink my water :)

    Yep. Keep it ventilated and you are good to go. I painted DDs roo. In the middle of march with fans and windows cracked.

    Have fun painting! I know some moms in my other BMB had some really nice painted nurseries.

    Behr makes either a low or no VOC paint. I'm sure there are other brands that do as well. As others have said, crack a window and turn on a fan and you should be good.

    My OB said it's fine. Just ventilate and "don't stick your nose in it." I use Behr Marquee. It's pricey, but low VOC and covers in one coat if you have good roller technique.

    Most indoor latex based paints are low to no VOC these days. I refinish/repurpose furniture and one of the first things I asked my OB was what I would need to do to continue - she said what everyone else has said - ventilate, hydrate, and take your time! I think painting is therapeutic. I am looking forward to tackling my nursery furniture projects soon!

    Yes you can paint. You can paint your belly if you want. Just use non toxic paint.

    I painted my son's nursery with my husband when I was pregnant. I just wore a mask and kept the windows open. Careful climbing! Your balance can be way off.

    I wouldn't but I'm really sensitive to smells (can be a migraine trigger) and I wouldn't want to deal with that while pregnant. They have so many more options for paint here in the States though so they might have better ones that don't smell anymore.

    Thanks for posting this! I was starting to worry about whether the nursery was going to get painted because my partner has been required to work a lot lately. I'm going to talk to my doc about the low VOC paints!!!

    Thanks for this post as well. We are going through a home renovation and my MIL is freaking out saying that there should be no painting in our house until after the baby is born. I have alot friends who painted while they were pregnant and everything was just fine.

    I painted while on my leave pregnant with two of my three kids and I'll be doing it again with this one. Painted rooms in my house including the nursery. Dr just told me to take it slow don't overdo it and make sure there is air flow.
