Gestational diabetes

I've looked thru the other posts on the topic and it doesn't really touch my question. I am 36+1, and have done nothing but lose weight all pregnancy... Even more so now that I'm on the special diabetes diet. Granted, it's not easy but it is a lot easier then I imagined it to be. I guess my only concern is i can NEVER get full. I am always hungry. Is this normal?

Re: Gestational diabetes

  • I sometimes have this problem.  I would add more protein and look into "free" snacks like string cheese that don't have any carbs so you can eat them whenever.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • Finding good recipes with high protein totally is key- pumpkin season is here and totally in our favor. Pumpkin moose or cheesecake. Jello's sugar free pudding makes a fun sweet too. For entrees you can substitute with things like spaghetti squash or very rich leafy greens to get more bang for your buck and fill up.
  • I feel ya. I'm hungry a lot, too! Soup and nut butters help fill me up.
  • Avocados and other low carb healthy fats are also helpful. And cauliflower mash is awesome.

  • Remember to eat ever couple of hours. That helps me feel more full.
  • I was getting hungry and talked to the nutritionist and she told me if I'm hungry, to do a one hour test instead of a 2 hour test and then have a snack. The number just has to be under 140 instead of 120. I gained 4 lbs in the week since I was allowed to add that added snack and am feeling much better!
  • Peanut butter is seriously keeping me from losing my mind! I feel like it helps even just having a spoonful or two.
  • Thanks ladies!! : )

Wait !! What?? You're allowed pumpkins, cheesecakes??!!! Really? I'd love to have them. Both of them are on the not to have/limit list for me:-(
  • I totally second the free snacks!! When I get hungry I just snack on a few cheese sticks or some fresh veggies and I usually feel a little better.. Try a small spoon full of peanut butter if your not allergic to peanuts.. Or try it with a small amount of crackers!! That has helped me a few times!! But string cheese and some fresh veggies go a long way!!

Cheesecake surprisingly doesn't have a ton of carbs and the fat in it slows the spike down. We have had cheesecake in our house all week and I've had a piece a day with no affects.
Also I discovered pumpkin pancakes don't spike me. Again- the fiber in pumpkin helps.
I seem to be very lucky and have a pretty mild case though.
