Acupuncture

There was a thread a couple weeks ago about acupuncture and I wanted to revive the issue.

For those who do acupuncture, how often do you go? Also, do you go on the day of IUI, retrieval, or transfer?
I'm thinking of starting and trying to get a feel for how often I will go to see if I can do it financially.

I go weekly. I've been going nearly weekly for about a year. Luckily my insurance covers 12 visits a year and my clinics have gotten extensions on the coverage, so I'm still having it covered.

I was trying to find an article that was linked on my acupuncture clinic's website and can't (I'll keep trying) but it showed success with acupuncture done just before and after IVF transfer. I just spoke to my acupuncturist this morning and one of them will actually come to our IVF clinic and do it. They have a relationship with my clinic so that's awesome. When I did IUI, I tried to go around the time of the IUI (a couple times I went right before, more often, I went right after) and then went about a week later around "implantation time."

I love acupuncture and I think however much you can swing will make a difference. For me, I initially went to help with my anxiety and it was amazing for that. Now I'm seeing a fertility acupuncturist and I really feel like it's helping.

I go once/week and have been for several months. First round of IVF I didn't do acupuncture and nothing came out of it. I cant say it was or wasn't due to anything...it just didn't work.

I started acupuncture when I started BC pill for my second IVF cycle. My doctor did a treatment before retrieval and before and after transfer. He met me in his office over the weekend and early in the morning. Make sure if your acupuncturist cannot meet you at IVF clinic that he/she will meet you any time and day of the week in their office.

I did get pregnant but unfortunately lost that baby.

I am still doing acupuncture and on BC pill for my third attempt. Fingers crossed.

I'm starting my first IVF cycle on 10/25. I scheduled my first acupuncture appointment for 10/23. I will also schedule an appointment a week later, a day or two before my transfer and hopefully the day of my transfer. I also want to schedule a massage for some extra stress relief, but not sure when during my cycle is best.

I started acupuncture at the beginning of my first IUI cycle. I was lucky enough to get a BFP that cycle, but I think it has more to do with the laparoscopy I got the previous month than anything else, but that we'll never know! I went twice a week for the entire cycle (including the day after the IUI), and have continued to go once a week from after my first 'baby' ultrasound at 7w. I'm now thinking of discontinuing given the large amount of money I'm spending on this and limited benefits at this point (not effective with nausea or fatigue in my case). I'd highly recommend going with someone who specializes in fertility, as they will change the location of the needles depending on where you are in your cycles. Mine always asked follies and lining measurements, hormone levels, etc. Good luck!

Hi, I started acupuncture after 5 failed IUI's. I started it about a month ago and yesterday was IUI#6. I go weekly, except on the week of my IUI...I went twice (my regular day which is Tuesdays and the day of the IUI itself).

I did acupuncture the day before the and the day of IUI. I pretty much felt almost nothing during and after, maybe a little tingling. I just wanted to do every possible little thing on my end to improve my chances. My beta is oct 23!

I just started going 3 weeks ago after I had my HSG. I was having a really long cycle (not ovulating), and was feeling discouraged. I decided to try something different to keep myself feeling "productive". I'm doing TCM (traditional chinese medicine)- acupuncture + herbs. I ovulated this past Monday, and I have been feeling awesome ever since starting TCM. The biggest change for me has been less stress/anxiousness. I also had a small amount of stretchy egg white CM which I have never had before!! The downside for me is it's very expensive (even with coverage), and he wants me to go every week for Acupuncture (85$/visit), and the herbs are expensive (145$/month). So far we've been managing but I don't know how long to keep it up... I do feel much better... we'll see. I'm in my TWW right now, FX.

I met with an acupuncture provider who specializes in fertility a few days after my first IUI. She said she would not do anything that cycle, but now that I'm starting IUI again, I will get treatments during the cycle, which will be twice during Clomid and pre and post IUI (I am doing Clomid + Ovidrel trigger). She also practices TCM and gave me some dietary guidelines, which I have been trying to follow. It is a nice way for me to feel like I have some sense of control in this process.

I had my first treatment yesterday, on day 2 of Clomid. I'll go back between trigger & the IUI, and then I think I will also go back after the IUI. I am not doing any injections other than the trigger, and the acupuncturist said that if I was doing injections, I would go in again.
