Wean slowly. You don't have to cut it out completely, just down to 200mg per day (approx. two cups of coffee).
I was like a full pot per day person, and would cuddle up with another cup before bed. I cut out one cup per day, and I did get headaches once I got down to 2 cups. They headaches came off and on for 2-3 days, but within 2 weeks of weaning, I am feeling great, and am able to just have my 1 cup per day.
I can't stand the smell or taste of coffee, so I usually make a latte at home with some creamer and milk in my frother.
I'm all about having my 200mg of caffeine a day! It's pretty much what puts me out of bed in the morning, you can still have your 2 cups a day @vesper137! Maybe try the half caff/half decaf? Anything to make that decaf crap taste better:)
When I weaned I switched straight to 1/2 caf 1/2 decaf. Then I went just decaf. Now I don't even care about coffee. I couldn't just quit cold turkey, I had to drink the decaf for a bit. I quit coffee not bc of TTC, I quit bc I was having palpitations lol.
I cut down from 3 cups/day to 1 cup/day and I'm happy with that. It wasn't too hard - I started when TTC and it only took a week or so. I just drank 1 cup and only let myself have more if I started to feel withdrawal headaches or very tired, and then I'd make the second cup either half a mug or I'd mix 1/2 and 1/2 caffeinated with decaf. I found that I was really just drinking that much out of habit rather than out of a real physiologic need for the caffeine. I wouldn't want to drop my one remaining cup though - it's making my mornings so much more pleasant and has a bonus laxative effect (mentioned in another post somewhere around here).

I so wish coffee didn't turn my stomach. Coffee was addicted to me, it was my second love. Once MS hit, I had NO desire for it. It doesn't even smell the same anymore. I smelled something burning the other afternoon and asked my husband what it was. He looked at me like I was insane and said he was making coffee. I miss it, but then the thought of it makes me want to gag and I don't miss it at all.
If I was able to have it, I'd stick to one cup a day in mid morning to help combat any withdrawal headaches. I cut back once from 3-4 cups to one cup and I found that mid morning was the best time to have that one cup.
Same here @CopperLane. Coffee makes me feel awful now, and when DH grinds coffee beans before bed to set his coffee for the next am, I have to tuck my shirt over my nose to keep from gagging. I'm so sad to have switched to tea, but my nausea has decreased and my body is getting used to less caffeine. I have headaches, but they're less severe from a week or two ago. In really hoping I can have it again 2nd tri.
I'm happily enjoying two cups each morning... but I'm slowly "weaning", as I'm drinking two, three-quarters full cups, as opposed to my usual two, full cups It's working fine, without any headaches. I'll probably cut to two, half cups in a week or so. (I just love the psychology behind drinking two cups of coffee, even if they are small cups!)
This is my forth, and surprisingly, my stomach hasn't turned at the thought/smell/taste of coffee yet. With my other pregnancies, it's been so bad that sweet hubby stopped brewing coffee at home (poor guy was settling for office coffee each morning... blech!!) so I wouldn't smell it. We had to put the darn thing in the garage so I couldn't see it. Ha!
I'm hopeful that I'll be able to enjoy a bit of my coffee this pregnancy. Forth one's a charm, right?

Ok I don't feel so bad, I'm just new at this and it sounds like your a pro, I've let my self have a small ice coffee, last week, and once this week, and I felt so guilty lol I've been getting by with iced tea and root beer ha ha!!!! After my first ultrasound I might relax a lil, just so paranoid. ...
Yeah I've been drinking decaf iced tea, for a while now even before TTC, but idk decaf coffee doesn't do it for me, but maybe I'll give it another whirl
