false alarm.

Has anyone else experienced contractions? Got some this morning, but they didn't get any stronger. How different is it when bany comes earlier from when he is full term. I am kind of prepared, but not really. 33weeks and going strong. Praying for full term delivery.

Re: false alarm.

  • Sorry meant baby, not bany.

  • Yes, all the time. Typically its Braxton Hicks contractions, but you should still call your doctor. Mine sent me to the hospital two weeks ago because they were happening so frequently.
  • Are you sure they're not just Braxton hicks? They're very common and prepare your body for the "real thing" mine started about that time.
  • They're likely just Braxton hicks, but if they're painful, or if you're not feeling right, call you doc or head to l&d! They'll never, ever be mad at you for making sure that you and your LO are safe and healthy. Good luck, mama
  • My dr said if you get more than 6 per hour that last one minute or longer call and go in to L&D. This being said, I promise you will know when it's the real deal. Braxton hicks are nothing at all like the real thing.

I was told if they last longer then a minute and happen every 5 minutes for an hour to go to the hospital.. Of course that was befor my preterm labor issues..
  • I had contractions at intervals of every 10 minutes for a few hours yesterday.  By coincidence I already had a doctor's appointment scheduled about an hour after they started so I went in and let them know.  They defied some of the normal Braxton Hicks check lists (they were painful and regular which typical BH aren't either), but the doctor seemed to be fine with them and just told me to rest and relax.  They went away after a few hours thank goodness.

I guess my point is, if you're worried call or see your doctor.  If they're not worried and there are no other symptoms of labor (bloody show, water breakage, increase in strength and duration of contractions, decrease in frequency of contractions) go home and try to relax.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

My understanding is that this is only true once you are term. If you are having real preterm contractions with any type of regularity, you should call your doctor asap.

  • Happened to me at 31 weeks, was having contractions 3 minutes apart, I got a shot to stop them, thank god. Now I only get Braxton hicks.
  • I've been getting contractions since 31ish weeks. My ob had the rule as well of 6 or more in one hour to go into labour and delivery. I seen her again yesterday and I'm almost 35 weeks, she said the same and also said baby is head down and engaged so my uterus is practicing and getting ready. She doesn't seem worried about them. Last night I had contractions every 15 minutes for an hour (so 4 contractions) it felt the same as the early contractions with my daughter, but it did stop.

I would suggest calling your doctor about them and finding out what their rule is as to when you should go to L&D.
