  I heard about this on the radio this morning. Another part of the story is that apparently the 8 year olds Mom recently passed away and the family just received a lump sum of money from life insurance. So the aunt was likely trying to get that money. People are pathetic.

  The sad thing is that in CT, which is where this happened and where I live, it is completely ok to sue a child unless they are less than 5 years old. Thank god the jury saw how stupid this was. AND the poor boy's mother just died this year! How cruel could you be?!

  Not sticking up for the lady, but I just saw a new article about how she was not suing to get any money from the actual family but from liability insurance to pay medical costs. Her medical insurance only paid $1 of her expenses, more reasons why I hate dealing with insurance companies. Still paying for my last pregnancy and csection over here!

  I think it has to do with the home owners insurance laws up there. If you arent negligent it only covers up to like $2000 and I guess she had to have a few surgeries? So in order for the insurance company to pay a larger sum it has to be deemed negligent by a judge and be taken to court. I think the kid was with her at the time so he was the one who had to be found negligent in order for the insurance company to pay more. This was a quick summary of an explanation
  I read somewhere so it could be made up by the author. IDK I'm not a layer or an insurance agent

  I saw them on the news. The aunt HAD to name a person for the homeowners insurance. I don't think she was doing was with intent to harm anyone. But who knows?!
