Reflux

I'm starting to think my LO might have reflux. Anybody have experience with this?

She spits up milk but also has been spitting up clear liquid, almost like she's drooling. A few times she has started crying when I try to burp her on my shoulder, but that could be because she's still hungry. She has laid flat on her changing pad without much problem, but has not wanted to lay flat on the couch or her play mat like before. When I do lay her down, she starts crying. To me, it sounds like she has a lot of liquid in her throat. She also gets the hiccups frequently, which I think I've read is a sign.

I've asked our nurse at the pediatricians office about spit up and the gas she's been having. We discussed switching to the sensitive formula for gas and fussiness. She also suggested feeding her a smaller amount more often, but if I try to stop LO early, she fusses pretty badly. Shes already eating every 2 hours during the day. I BF and supplement and she probably gets approximately 3-3.5 oz at each feeding. It was also mentioned that hunger cues could also mean stomach discomfort. I feel so confused now about everything and it could be that I'm over thinking it.

Does this sound like reflux? I've looked online and it seems to maybe match some of the symptoms.

Re: Reflux

  • I would suggest asking yout ped for s prescription. My led put LO on Prilosec based on symptoms. She said if it does not work after a week or so than we have ruled out reflux.

  • Your symptoms sound a lot like the ones my LO had. She is now in Zantac. We also sleep with her head elevated by putting a book under that end if the mattress. This has all helped her sleep better.

  • My lo has almost all of the symptoms that you have listed and the dr dx him with reflux yesterday. I would talk to your pedi about this to see what the next step is for your lo. For my lo gas drops have helped some but he's still upset at every feeding (during and after eating)

  • That's good to know ladies. I will probably be calling the doctor tomorrow to see if I can bring her in. I don't know if it's genetic, but I have reflux, so it wouldn't surprise me if she does.
  • My LO was diagnosed with reflux because after feedings he would start gagging/choking but not actually spitting up at all and also got the hiccups after every feed. We were told to keep him elevated for a while after eating and to elevate the head of his bed. No special meds were prescribed and these things have helped a lot
  • Just went to my pediatrician today and he told me to try 1/2tsp of mylanta or maalox to see if it helps any. (Trying to see if she has acid reflux) if it helps he said he will call me in a prescription for Zantac.
