I had some friends over the other day, a married couple with two kids, who said their LO would not fall asleep or stop crying and one night they decided to take him in the shower (dad did it) and it instantly put the baby to sleep and worked like a charm every time since then. They thought the noise of the water plus the warm steam and skin to skin contact is what did it. So yesterday I tried it and was floored that my 4 week old daughter loved it. She did not fall asleep tho which surprised me but lately she's been awake ALL day. It did immediately stop her fussiness and crying - she was so intrigued and looked all around her the whole time and was very relaxed and warm and enjoyed me holding her skin to skin. I had a big fluffy towel I wrapped her in when done and within 20 min of getting out of the shower she was out like a light. I'm going to continue doing it, especially if she's super fussy during the day. Just wanted to throw this out there in case it helps anyone - I never would've thought to do it had my friends not said anything. One downside: holding a naked wet baby in the shower meant I couldn't wash myself or even her really - I needed both hands to hold her so it was really all about relaxing her and getting her to Quiet down vs actually bathing her (or myself). Curious to know if anyone else found this works for them and if they can offer and other tidbits about it!
Re: Shower w/ baby trick
We've done this for all our kids, and I honestly think it helps with water /swimming later in life. Eventually we let the water hit their face, even now we let a little run down. By the time they are bigger we have found no fears with getting their faces wet either in swimming or bathing itself.
