Good evening fellow mamas!
I am so very, very excited to be officially joining this group. I have lurked for a while (and know you have an intro discussion), but I was too nervous to post an introduction. But, now I thought my story might be of some comfort to you mamas who are nearing your first ultrasound experience.
In March of 2013, after 3 ultrasounds and doubling HCG levels, I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage (blighted ovum) and underwent a DnC. I have stage 3 endometriosis and MTHFR, and I was absolutely convinced that I had lost my only shot at having a baby. I was pretty active on TTCAL for a while. After finally adding an HCG trigger shot to my regular clomid regiment, I got pregnant with my DS, who was born at 37 weeks in February 2014 (I had pre-e).
We never went on birth control after having DS (although I did breastfeed his first year). I had an appointment with my doctor to go back on clomid and HCG this month, but low and behold I got a positive pregnancy test two weeks before my appointment. My appointment was changed to a pregnancy confirmation and early ultrasound at 6 weeks. Based on my previous blighted ovum experience, I was terrified of the initial ultrasound appointment. My worst fears felt confirmed when they said that the gestational sac was measuring small and appeared empty. I then came in for blood work to compare HCG betas. My HCG went from 17,000 on Monday to 19,000 on Wednesday (so nowhere near doubling). The nurse who called said that it was 85-90% likely I would miscarry. Despite my slow rising hormones, I still managed to throw up all day and every day this week.
Today, I went in for my follow up ultrasound and saw a yolk sac and beautiful, sweet baby with a heartbeat of 123 BPM (my doctor seemed as shocked as I did). By LMP, my due date is June 1st. The baby, however, is measuring a tad small and by measurements is due on our anniversary -- June 5th. Happy anniversary to us!
Other things about me: I am a working mama who stays very busy. I am a geek who loves my dog, Audible books during car rides, cake (any flavor), card games, Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Big Bang Theory and wine. I can't wait to meet you all and share in this incredible journey during the next several months!
