Sizing question

I ordered an adorable dress for baby girl to wear Thanksgiving. Reviews said it ran true to size. I got 0-3. She is 10 lbs now at 6 weeks. I wasn't sure if I made a mistake and should have got 3-6. I want it to fit for thanksgiving, so I figured I should get the 0-3 and she will be 3 months old in November. Right?

Re: Sizing question

  • 3-6 seems so big but my first DD was out of 3 months by 6 weeks old. This LO is already pretty snug in 3 month sizes but they're all hand-me-downs so maybe they've shrunk a little.
Sometimes things like dresses/only wearing once are safe in the true-to-size.

  • It's so cute, I want it to fit right! Most of the 0-3 stuff is big on her now. I got it from Baby Gap and the 0-3 sleeper she has from there is huge on her now. The dress is a sale item, so if it doesnt fit, I don't think I will be able to get the 3-6. I know we have time before Thanksgiving, I just can't imagine her fitting in something made for a 6 month old in November.
  • Here us the dress! I got knit leggings and moccasins to complete the outfit :)

Omg that's precious!! i may need to buy it too!
  • So cute!! It really depends on the baby. The same clothes that DD1 wore at 2mo are snug on DD2 at 4w, the girls were only 2oz apart at birth. And they were hand me downs to start, so they haven't shrunk. I think 0-3 is pretty safe though, it's only a month away.

  • So hard to tell! My LO was in NB for the first couple of weeks. Then he had a huge growth spurt and was in 0-3 for less than 3 weeks. 3-6 isn't even big on him now and he's only 6.5 weeks. Thankfully I didn't cut the tags off the clothing until I was ready for him to wear it, I ended up exchanging a whole bunch of outfits for larger sizes. Girl clothes tend to be a lot more forgiving than boy clothes though. Dresses turn into cute swing tops, pants become capris...

  • @kkerner87 it depends on the kid too. My DD is 9lbs 12oz and already in 3-6 months. She'll be 4 weeks tomorrow. My other kids were still in NB at this age. I'd get the 3-6. Can you just return the one she doesn't wear later? GAP has a great return policy!

  • Maybe I will buy both and return the one I think will fit her next month! I think the 0-3 will be good. If others said it's true size, I think the other size may be a bit too big if it's made to fit a 6mo old. Or worst case, I have a niece due any day now so she could probably wear it if it's too small for Mila!
  • Like PPs said it depends on your baby.  DS was born Aug 3rd and his Thanksgiving outfit was 0-3 months, DS2 just turned 2 months and is already in 3-6 month clothes.  I thought I would be able to reuse all of my Holiday outfits since the boys are only a week apart but DS2 is so much bigger that I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to buy new ones.

Ugh. Why does buying baby clothes have to be so difficult.
  • If this helps any, I have found that Baby Gap clothes run on the big side!
  • I had the same issues but with my son! He is 6 weeks, NB doesn't fit...and only certain 0-3 fit. I'm shocked. It makes it hard to try to plan ahead! Lol
  • I think it depends on the baby. My LO is 10 lbs 4 oz today at 4 weeks and is still in newborn, 0-3 is too big. Can you buy both and return the one that doesn't fit?
  • What percentile is your baby in for height and weight? That might help you make a guess as to where she'd fall in regard to clothing. My 6-week-old is in the 98th percentile for height so all of his 0-3 sleepers just barely fit length-wise and he'll grow out of them before he's 3 months for sure. He's in the 86th percentile for weight and his 0-3 onesies still fit, but I'm guessing he'll also outgrow them soon. Some clothes are more forgiving than others, and all brand's sizing is different. For instance, Gerber clothing runs small and narrow and doesn't fit my big dude at all!
