Hey all...so I just found out last week that I am expecting, still early about 4w5d don't see the OB til nov 12th...we already had a vacation planned and will be leaving on Saturday October 17th...going to an all-inclusive resort at riviera maya Mexico...I'm really nervous about it now. Anyone else ever have this issue or happen to them?

Re: Travel in first trimester

  • There was a post about this not too long ago.  I wouldn't really worry about air travel, especially flights under 4-5 hours  Obviously no doing shots at the all-inclusive.  ;)

Seriously, I'm traveling internationally to India at 10 weeks and 12 weeks (well over 24 hours of travel each way), and domestically at 13 weeks (about a 4-5 hour flight).  I'm only concerned about India because of dengue fever not the air travel.  Stay well hydrated, get up and walk around and wear compression socks if you are really worried.  Have fun in Mexico!  What resort are you going to?  I love the Riviera Maya.

  • I'm at 5w 2days and out of town now. I wouldnt worry about it. Plus Cancun/Riviera Maya area is well developed if you would need medical attention. Have Fun!
  • Thanks ladies ...I was just worried about foods that I could eat and those to stay away from because of bacteria.. I was reading up on it so hopefully I will try not to stress. we are staying at secrets maramoa beach!
  • I stayed at the Riu in riviera maya a few years ago and the water was not potable. Be careful of the ice and water in the shower. A higher end resort like Secrets might be better than my experience!

the only thing I would be concerned about is MS, other than that have a great time!

    And the water situation....
  • Secrets is a great resort! Definitely go with bottled water though and I would opt for freshly made items over buffet items sitting around for long periods of time (usually breakfast buffets for example). They should have an omelette station and other fresh items to select from. Have a great time!
  • I went to Cabo when I was about 6 weeks with DS. Definitely stick with the bottled water! And as long as the food looks fresh it should be fine. Anything that isn't probably won't be very appetizing anyways!

I drank a lot of "lemonade" when I was there. Idk what it was but every where I went made it the same way - probably a club soda, lemon/line juice mixture - and it was delicious! And virgin pina coladas obviously.

  • I'm headed to Miami tomorrow...Can I ask a stupid question about traveling...are we all okay going through the metal detector?

My understanding is metal detectors are fine. The new body scanners (that use low level X-Ray) are safe too according to the TSA but you can always opt out and get a pat down instead if you feel uncertain.
