Losing my mind - baby fights sleep?

My (almost) 4 week old daughter is a decent sleeper. The problem is GETTING her to sleep. It can take literally HOURS to get her to sleep. I've tried everything. Different lengths of awake time, carriers, swaddles, swings, soothers, feed to sleep, shushing. All of it. After a vigorous work out of bouncing and shushing she'll fall asleep for about 2 mins and wake up after the slightest change in circumstance (stop bouncing, brother makes noise, sit down, put down, etc). Once she's in a good deep sleep she'll sleep for a few hours. I am at the end of my rope. I spend all day trying to get her to sleep, but I also have a three year old to chase around. Help!

  • Me too. Currently she has been up since 1pm and it's 5pm and she is over tired. I hope someone has some help.

  • Have you tried lying baby down on her own? My second baby didn't like to be held to go to sleep all the time. He preferred to lay on his own and go to sleep. This LO seems to be the same way with his morning sleep.

My first would wake up when we put him down due to the change in temperature. He would be nice and warm against our body and the change would startle him awake. To fix this I used to gradually hold him away from my body before putting him down. That seemed to do the trick for him.

  • Someone else suggested this in another thread and I started it this week. 10 minutes before bedtime, put a heating pad in the place where you want baby to sleep to warm the surface. Turn it off and take it away right before you put them down and they won't be shocked back awake. it's been working for my 5wk old son! Also have been nursing him to sleep right beforehand. Good luck!
  • I have a similar issue and it was driving me crazy. But I've figured out my little girl likes the body heat and warmth. So I will usually warm up a space... Bed... Crib... And lay her there. She will usually only sleep for a couple hours more after I put here down, but it's better than nothing.
