Hyperemesis Gravidarum

Anyone been diagnosed with or feel they've gone beyond morning sickness into something more serious?
I'm not trying to start another morning sickness thread... What I'm experiencing is more than a need for crackers and ginger tea. Im down 10 lbs in 2 weeks, I've already had one ER visit due to dehydration, and I just can't see an end in sight.
Please tell me I'm not alone.

My DH has been GREAT! He forces me to sip Gatorade and holds my hair back 10+ times a day but I still feel lonely in my suffering. It's hard getting others to understand just how physically draining being so sick has been.

  • There's medication to help with this. Have you gotten some from your doctor?

  • I've been prescribed a couple things and they're helping but leave me feeling like a zombie. So instead of throwing up every couple hours I'm only able to stay awake a couple hours a day.

  • Did they give you any meds or prescriptions in the ER? I spent a night there for HG and got Zofran, Reglan, and a script for Diclegis. Talk to your OB (mine was able to get me free office samples of Diclegis since my insurance doesn't cover it) or you can do 10mg unisom and 10mg B6.

  • I received zofran at the hospital and I've been prescribed diclegis. It hasn't helped much other than knocking me out and turning me into a walking zombie.

  • This is my second pregnancy with HG. It's been really rough, necessitating hospital stays and in-home treatment. Aside from the debilitating physical symptoms, the toughest part for me is how isolating it feels. Even though my husband is incredibly supportive and we are lucky to have family to help with our toddler, it is emotionally exhausting to be bed ridden. It is also hard when even the most well intentioned family members mistake HG for "just bad morning sickness." Hang in there, mama. You're not alone!
  • Lurking from April 2016...Also my second HG pregnancy. With my first, I was still getting sick several times a week at week 37. It sucks feeling like you're alone and no one gets it or everyone thinks you should feel better or may be exaggerating how awful it feels.

When you are losing weight while growing a person, wanting to eat everything including the sofa, proceeding to puke up everything (along with said sofa), then dealing with a gaping pit for a stomach...no, there's no exaggerating that. There's only dealing with it.

Phenergan helps me be able to eat, but, yes, I essentially become the walking dead. Then everyone thinks you're just being lazy.

One thing I've found to do is find the (very) few foods that I tolerate no matter what. For me they are pizza (oddly) and beans. If I have a few days where I can't eat or keep food down, I spend a day eating one of those.

I just went three days without holding down anything but water and half a can of chicken noodle soup (the other half made a reappearance). I was down six pounds today from three days ago. So I spent today eating nothing but lima beans...like almost a whole pound of them. It felt sooo good.
