Seeding

Hello ladies.
I have my 2nd c-section scheduled for 10.28 I am really looking forward to a non emergency c section experience. With my first I felt so out of it & don't remember much about it & really regret not being more alert but given the circumstances it was ok. So here lately I have been hearing more and more about "seeding" c-section delivery babies. For those who aren't sure what that is (I was one until earlier this week) it simply just exposing your child to vaginal liquid shortly after birth in hopes to boost their immune systems since they aren't exposed to those fluids naturally. Now I have read several articles where they simply just swab your area and place some on Little ones eyes ears and mouth. Their are some others that bathe their children in it. I was just curious to see if any other ladies had considered this or have done it & had seen the benefits or it's something foreign.
Hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday.

Re: Seeding

  • I actually just read about this the other day. Sounds interesting. I am still deciding between scheduled section and a vbac at the moment. I was going to talk to my doc about it, but I am GBS+ so, seeding wouldn't be an option for me anyways this go around. Have you spoken to your doc about it yet? I'd love to hear what they have to say.

  • I originally planned a water birth but complications arose and I had an emergency C. We did the swabbing-they placed a gauze inside my vagina/birth canal to absorb all the fluid. When baby came out, my husband swabbed the baby all over with the gauze. It's meant to mimic your baby passing through the birth canal and getting coated with your fluid and "good bacteria" :)
