Safe DIY fabrics/foam materials for infant toys?

I see online tutorials for making your own foam blocks and other infant toys, however nothing specifies what is safe and not. I do not want to make a soft toy for my LO to chew and drool on if it contains harmful chemicals. Does anyone have experience with making your own infant toys/foam blocks, and what baby safe materials were used?

  • I haven't tried this but I bet the EcoFriendly Board would have an answer for you, they are super knowledgable about DIY with safe materials over there

  • I worked at Joanns for several years as the soft lines supervisor, and I was in charge of all the fabrics. I can tell you that whatever fabrics you use are COVERED in chemicals (particularly formaldehyde) but they should be safe after you wash them.
  • Also depending on what kind of foam you're looking at, some contain lead.
