Not happy with obs office.. What to do?

Yesterday I had stomach cramping, low back pain and pressure. I'm 25 weeks. It wasn't going away with rest and hydrating so I called obs office around 2:30 and they said they put message on drs desk and would call back. Well come 4:30 I still was in pain and still no call. I have history of pre term labor (went into labor at 30wks with daughter and was given injection to stop and put on strict bed rest, then made it to 38 weeks). So after waiting I call again and ask when they are there until.. 6pm. 6:20 and still no call and they are gone so I called after hours and the dr on call called me back and wanted me to go to the hospital for monitoring. Thankfully everything was ok but I'm still very frustrated that I never heard back from my dr!!! The hospital wanted me to follow up with my ob within a couple days. I call today and tell them this and they say they can't get me in until next week. I called back and said can I get in with nurse midwife and they got me in in a couple days. Should I be this upset? I feel like knowing my history they should be more on the ball. :/ what do you guys think??

  • I would be pretty upset about not getting a call back! Was this the first time they have done something like this, have you been upset about they way things were handled there before? If this was the first time I personally would let it slide, if they are repeat offenders I might be switching providers!

  • I think if you are frustrated (which I would be if I were in your situation) then that is all that matters. Could you switch to a different doctor within the practice? It sounds like the on call doctor was more on top of things, and your current doctor seems a little too busy in my opinion. I switched OBs (and offices) completely at 24 weeks for different reasons. YOU have to be 100% comfortable with your care and with the person who will be delivering your child. You don't need to be worrying if he/she will be doing everything necessary, and I think you should follow your gut. I can tell you it sucks to switch late in pregnancy, but it is worth it. My past couple weeks since switching have been so much less stressful it is unreal.
  • I would be upset with the office but not with the doctor. For all you kmow the note was on the doctors desk but may have been covered with other paperwork. When I worked at a doctors office we never left important notes on the doctors desk because it easily gets lost. Call and talk to the office manager. The nurse should have looked at your chart and seen your history and known to take it more serious. Glad everything worked out.

  • I really have liked the dr. Feel like it's the office staff where the breakdown is. I don't think they should've left note on desk either. I'm going to address my concerns with the nurse when I go on Thursday. Thanks ladies!!!
