Just spent a ridiculous amount of time making lactation cookies (I should've used the time to sleep ugh!) - please someone tell me your experience with them, are they worth a crap? I make 40 cookies. Do you feel they worked/helped??
They were yummy but they didn't do much for me. I have better luck making smoothies with oatmeal, Brewers yeast and flax seed. I can add more of the good stuff with none of the sugar/fat.
I noticed a jump in my milk production with them (actually I made them into bars instead cause it takes too long to make cookies) I think that the biggest difference for me was when I started drinking a glass of Gatorade ever day in addition to guzzling fluids like crazt
The ingredients work. i used them with my first, now I eat oatmeal with flaxseed. I felt the same way, that there's other stuff I can do instead of making cookies. The oatmeal is way easier.
I think for me, they "helped". I was so worried about milk production and wanting to EBF that I googled all the tricks and thought those sounded like a good place to start. I think it gave me the confidence and hope to keep building my supply. I only ate them for 4 days but she was eating and being satisfied with just one breast where as before it would take both and sometimes I'd supplement after. I think they give you the promise of something taking the pressure off you which is nice. Just keep up feeding whenever baby is hungry. I got lots of Dr advice to time and keep track of feedings but my little girl tells me when and that all we need.
@misgin1980 They are pretty much oatmeal cookies with brewers yeast and flax seed meal. You can get those at a vitamin store or an all natural supplement store. Babies r us sells the the cookies but they are expensive if you plan to use them for a long time. I found the recipe I used in pinterest.
I just take supplements. Way easier and less calories. I take fenugreek, blessed thistle, and Brewers yeast tablets, and I add ground flax to my morning smoothie.
Adding Brewers yeast and flax to oatmeal or smoothies is more effective. Drinking tons of fluids also makes a huge difference.
If you are making a dessert any way, just add a couple tbs of yeast and flax to give you a little boost, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make them for lactation.
These are delicious! My cousin made them for me. I'm making more of them tomorrow (as soon as my Brewers yeast gets here!). I ordered the Brewers yeast, flax meal & wheat germ all on Amazon. I'm sure specialty grocers would have them too, but Amazon made it easy. They are a soft & fluffy cookie.
I made no bake "boobie bites" which are little balls. Easy to grab a few and pop in especially if you can't make an actual meal right away. They are very tasty and healthy with oatmeal, Brewers yeast, and flaxseed. Not sure if they are helping or not bc I have not that high of supply anyways but I'd like to think they may help a little. Some women swear by them and some it may just help to give them a little extra bit of healthy while being busy.
Lactation brownies helped me 6 extra oz! 4 brewers yeast tablespoons and 2 tablespoons flax meal and an extra tablespoon of water added to regular brownie mix directions
How long does it take for them to start working? I had 7 cookies yesterday and pumped 2-3 times since and there is no difference . Does it take a few days?
Re: Do lactation cookies really work?
(I EBF and pump once or twice a day.)

I love them! They're a crispy cookie.
I tried the cookies from Babies R Us but didn't like them at all (and they're really expensive!).
