Officially lost my mind...

I'm not someone who wants to hold onto everything for sentimental value. I'll keep certain things but I don't go nuts.

So we had our shower Saturday and I'm finding it hard to throw away the gift bags. We had a whale theme and a lot of them have whales. I want to keep them but know I shouldn't. I mean wtf am I going to do with baby shower gift bags!

I'm convinced I'm going to turn into a hoarder and never let anything baby related leave the house! Lol

  • We tossed the gift bags, but I kept the bows. My plan is to put the bows & cards in her memory box.

  • I am also a giftbag hoarder!! I saved the ones from my shower too. Eventually I'll probably get rid of most and keep a few but I just can't right now lol

5 years later I still have a couple. But have used most for other people's gifts. I never throw away gift bags. I saved so much money reusing. My mom has used them too. I have a big bag of them and keep them in closet.
It makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one who does this too. I always felt kind of tacky keeping bags that people gave me gifts in, but it seems silly to toss them after one use!! I'm just paranoid one day I'll give someone a gift in the bag they gave me and they'll remember and call me out on it!

I do this too. I haven't yet had anyone notice that I've re-used the gift bag and I've kept all the ones (unless they got ripped or something) I've gotten in the last 10 years at least! I don't think most people pay that much attention. :)

  • I kept some but not all of the gift bags from my baby showers. I usually keep all the gift bags, but I doubt I'll need as many baby-themed bags as I've gotten, so I've kept a handful of varying sizes (and the cuter ones), as well as the "not-necessarily-baby-themed" bags then tossed the rest.
  • Cut them up, turn them into a collage, frame it for baby's room.

Such a good idea!!!! Thank you!!
  • You could also cut the cutest parts out and put them in a baby book or keepsake box. The collage suggestion would be great also!
  • I had a whale themed shower too and got some bags with whales on them. I kept the cutest ones and gave the rest to my mom. She's the gift bag hoarder.
  • Another idea for a bigger bag depending on your car - you'll probably want to keep some spare clothes for everyone in there and some spare diapers for the LO. I think a cute whale bag in the trunk with those in them would be pretty awesome :)
  • I kept a bunch from mine too. Didn't just wanna waste them. These are some good ideas as a way of getting more use. I like.
  • I kept mine too. Many were baby themed but a lot were not. I'm sure I'll be able to reuse them as we have a big family and a lot of friends that are talking about having kids soon. No need to waste a perfectly good bag!
  • I kept a bunch of mine. My favorite bags I'm going to use as scrapbook paper after he's born.

The others I'll hold on to, I have a container with different bags that I use for gifts I need to give.
  • You can always reuse them like other PPs have said. If you're into scrapbooking, you could cut pieces out and use them on the pages or even ad the background in general!
  • I like to reuse gift bags, I've also found that some of them make really great storage containers too. (people repurpose diaper boxes as storage bins) it can be done for smaller things with gift bags. also as others have mentioned using the bags as stock for scrapbooking, finding fun ways to incorporate pieces of the bag into the nursery, ect. there are so many things you could do! if you want to keep some of the gift bags you totally should.

  • I save mine and reuse them. Also, can I just say that I love the whale theme :)
  • @angelinthepit23 I have always saved gift bags! From our wedding, showers, birthdays, and baby showers! I haven't had to buy gift bags in 5 years!! I can't tell you exactly but I am fairly confident I have saved us at least a couple hundred dollars.
  • I save mine. We got married and pregnant this year. I'm all set on wedding and baby gift bags for probably a good 5 or so years. My mom took a couple too. I reuse gift bags all the time.
  • I saved mine from my first boy, got all sentimental and even saved shower cards and some decorations! I was cleaning out the closet "nesting" for this baby boy and finally threw them out. I only saved the cards from immediate family members and bags that I could reuse. I kinda miss them a little but seriously they sat in a closet for 4 years!
  • I'm a saver to.... And if they don't say baby or have baby rattles on them they are great for little kids birthday bags to!
  • Cut them up, turn them into a collage, frame it for baby's room.

I did this! I had a "woodland animal" themed party and also saved some of the decorations to decorate babies room. The animal cut outs on the tree are from the gift bags and decorations.

I did this with the cards!!!

  • I used to save every gift bag I ever received, thinking I would reuse them someday. My husband helped me cut down on that. Well, at our shower, my MIL not only "helpfully" folded up all the gift bags for us, she also folded all the tissue up from the bags, including going through the garbage since I was just tossing the paper in there as I unwrapped. Now I feel even more guilty about throwing the stuff away, but I will never go to enough baby showers to use up these gift bags.
  • Donate them! There are always charities or non-profits that can use this stuff if you are feeling guilty about trashing them. Kids schools use them to, for projects or whatever they need.
  • I saved mine and they were super handy for all of DD's friends birthday parties!
  • Our friends and family are all going to get baby bags for their birthday and Christmas presents for the next few years...
