Postpartum anxiety!!!

Anyone else struggling with it?!! My baby is 9 days old. I thought I was improving but today was not good. I think it's my hormones. I have so much anxiety- is my baby okay? What if he freaks out and we can't figure out what's wrong? We had to take him to the ER last week bc he was inconsolable to the point where he wouldn't nurse. Turns out we need to supplement with formula; he wasn't getting enough from my boobs. Now he's fine but I am utterly terrified of something like this happening again. I plan on calling my doctor Tuesday. Anyone else out there experiencing this or have advice?

Definitely call and speak to your doctor so they can address your concerns... From my experience, babies are crazy the first few weeks they are home. They are experiencing a dramatic change just like you only they don't have the skills to cope so they cry. If they aren't in pain/hurt, wet or hungry they will cry their little heads of which is no doubt upsetting to you, especially as a first time mum. I remember my son, who was perfect in the hospital, lost his mind about 4 days after he was born and cried from 8pm until about 5am the next day. Needless to say I was a wreck and poor hubby was too. We called the night nurse and they said try not to fret if we checked for everything, because they do that sometimes. Not exactly what you want to hear in that moment but in hindsight it makes sense. All that to say never second guess yourself, and always call the Dr/nurse for support whenever you need it, and don't feel bad about doing so. It'll get better with time, trust me :-)

  • I'm dealing with terrible anxiety. But it's been getting better as time passes. It's normal to be this way but if it gets really bad or doesn't get better in a week or two then definitely call your doc. There's no point in wallowing in misery and no shame in asking for help.
  • I dealt with bad anxiety over DS's health after he was born 2 years ago. It kept me from sleeping. We got a Snuza breathing monitor, which helped me sleep, but the anxiety was still bad. It got better around 6-8 weeks when we started getting out of the house more. Talk to your doctor about it. That's what I did and I felt better!

  • I am up right now with horrible anxiety. My twins (9 days) sleep all the time, yet I cant. I worry about everything and I cry about everything. I went back on an old anxiety/depression med I used to take and I'm hoping it helps. You aren't alone!
