How long until post partum poop?

How long was it until you were able to poop post partum? I can remember from DS, but today is day 5. I just want to get it over with! I've been taking stool softener every day.

  • I pooped day 2 last time. I do t blame you for wanting to get it over with. It's not pleasant, but you feel so much better after!

I didn't. :) but I know it's super common, so take it with a grain of salt lol
  • I pooped day two, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And according to DH I did not poop during labor.. Lol

I did! But it wasn't too much! It also took me about 2 days PP to poop. It wasn't as stressful as I thought it would be.
  • @MandahGirly ahhh!!!! Haha yes! Did you know you pooped? Did they clean it up right away!?

Pretty sure I did, but if I did they didn't tell me and covered it up right away.  Not sure though, it just felt like I did.  I was not about to ask though!!  I was able to poop 3 days pp.
  • I was like 4 or 5 days pp with a stool softener every day. I wasn't uncomfortable or anything, just took a while :)

My husband reminded me that I also pooped in the tub :-O :-O :-O by the time that happened I was already at the pushing stage. When I got onto the bed I did it again and I believe they cleaned it so fast my husband didn't even see it! The OB acted like nothing had ever happened lol
  • @MandahGirly that's awesome!! Hahaha okay I'm just going to tell my husband to stay by my head I need "emotional support" aka don't look down there!

  • With my first, they set up basically a trash bag under the edge of the delivery table, so anything other than baby went straight in there. So it wasn't like poop sitting on the table-there are so many messy fluids that come out that I think that's easier for them to clean up! They didn't tell me what came out, ha, they were very discrete.

It's hard to tell if you did or not based on feeling alone because the urge to push and actually pushing the baby out feel exactly like pooping. Same muscles engaged- they tell you to push like you are pooping. So it's only natural that poop may come out, too.

I think that's one reason why the postpartum poop is so tough. For me it was psychological- I was afraid to use those same muscles again after labor, even though I wasn't constipated.

I didn't! I told my nurse before I was NOT pooping on the table and she got all snotty and told me to get over it because I would definitely poop. Afterwards my husband verified I did not poop and I made sure I mentioned to her that I told her so.

I'm terrified of pooping while pushing, but I would never be so bold as to declare that I won't. I hope @jcra7212 got an award or something. Maybe a plaque on the wall that her "snotty" nurse has to pass by.

Did anyone try an enema or anything to clean themselves out before heading to the hospital?
  • Mine didnt come for almost a week. Oh boy, and when it did, I thought my butthole was gonna need stitches!
  • I pooped on the table with my first, and it took me 3 or 4 days to poop at home. I wish I would have taken a picture of that thing and sent it to guiness world records. It was insanely huge, and stuck up out of the toilet. It hurt worse than labor (ok not really, but close).

  • Same day after I delivered bc my mean nurse made me lol. Once I got home maybe 2 days but I think it's because the food is had in the hospital was balanced and conducive to pooping, whereas at home it was eat whatever is convenient... so maybe look at what you're eating *Kanye shrug*
  • Man lol I must be special bc I know for sure I pooped while giving birth. My epi was wearing off and after my son came out I felt it. To be honest, it was far behind my mind wheb I had my son in my arms bc he was what I worried about. After my epi wore off completely I had to finish whet I started! Lol after I popped my nurse was like I'll wipe for you. I was like uhhh I got it thanks. She laughter and said honey this is my job to help you so she checked me to make sure I didn't have poop in my butt :) lol.
  • It was Day 9 for me. I don't poop too often anyway, and the pain meds stopped me up. It was AWFUL. The small hemorrhoids I had during pregnancy are now enormous and I can't really sit on them. :(
