I got some postcards from friends who just had babies announcing the birth of their child. What am I supposed to do with it? Send a gift? Send a greeting card? Nothing? And am I supposed to send one as well, now that I finally delivered?
I was planning to send some of these too. I don't think you have to do anything. I was just wanting to share the news and a few newborn pictures with family we don't see every day. Stick it on your fridge?
It's just an announcement. We do them, along side all of our friends. Occasionally, a relative will send a gift, but it's not a solicitation for one at all.
We are going to do a combo holiday/birth announcement card. Can't wait to send it out!!
I don't believe there is any one thing you are "supposed" to do in response. Announcement cards are a way to formally announce the baby's arrival, name, and often birth facts in a keepsake format. I imagine many friends and family think if it as a little gift when they receive them! (Cue cooing aunts and grandmothers, especially.)
You may choose to send anything from a quick text, to an email, to a greeting card to congratulate the parents if you have not done so already - especially if you live far away and cannot meet the baby for awhile. If you want to send a small gift, it could be a nice surprise for the parents.
I plan on sending announcements to family members who are not on social media. I have family in different states, a great grandmother in California who will most likely not be able to meet my little girl
Just coo over the adorable baby, if you're close maybe send a congrats text or email, and dispose or hang on fridge, or whatever feels right. There's no obligation for anything, really in response. I'm planning on sending them, but only to really close family and friends since we live 3,500 miles away from home and my husband's side, primarily, is NOT tech savvy and probably will not see the baby until we work up a way to fly out there... meaning not for quite some time.
