Question for STM or october moms who've already went through labor

Did anyone ever go through labor without much pain in the beginning?

All morning I've had this tightening and releasing feeling. Doesn't hurt, just feels very uncomfortable. On top of that I've had a pinchy headache, I feel like I've been kicked in the crotch, and there is so much pressure in my pelvis. I'm thinking about going to L&D to get checked out because every time I have this tightening feeling my baby goes crazy! I'm paranoid thinking he's in distress or something. I can't time it because he's pushing up against me and I can't tell when its over. I've heard most women say that you will know when its time. I'm pretty sure its false labor, but just wondered if anyone had been through something similar and it turned out to be the real deal.

Re: Question for STM or october moms who've already went through labor

  • My first ten hours of labor were very mild with contractions every 7 minutes. But it was enough to wake me up at 3 am and I couldn't go back to sleep. Pain is such a relative thing, it's difficult to say. If your contractions are not regular then it's Probably just false labor. That being said, if you're concerned you should definitely go into your practice. I wouldn't go to the hospital as they will likely send you to triage, not l and d, where you Will probably wait longer to be seen (and your copay for admittance will be higher.) Your OB can check your cervix and hook you up to a fetal monitor to time your contractions and make sure baby isn't in distress.

  • My OB is out of the office today and I'm waiting for his nursing staff to call me back :( I really don't want to go to L&D but if this keeps up I might have to. I'm pretty sure its false labor too, but I'm worried about how active he's been. Its just out of his norm.

  • My twins were born September 21st and if my water wouldn't have broken at home I would have never known they were on thier way :\ I never felt a single contraction and when I got to the hospital I was 6cm dialated. Better to play it safe and get checked. Good luck to you!
  • I only had some minor back pain. My water broke first, and when I went in I was having contractions every 5-6 minutes apart. I didn't even know that I was having contractions.
  • My first 12 hours were super manageable. Probably took about 10 hours for the contractions to get organized enough to time and for me to realize I should call lol. The 12 hours that followed that were a little nuts at the hospital but I was able to discern when it was time to call. When in doubt, call :)

  • My labor was ten hours from my water breaking until my baby was born. Contractions were 5-6 minutes apart lasting 1 minute as soon as they started. They felt like severe menstrual cramps. I didn't have any back pain, but I definitely knew they were contractions!
  • my doctor didn't want me to come in until they were at a point I couldn't talk or walk during one. It took me about 12 hours of contractions, which felt like the worst period cramp times 1000, to get to those rough one's.

  • With both of mine I was only feeling discomfort until I transitioned. From there it was really quick and intense. This last time i transitioned in about an hour and only pushed for 10. I go in when my contractions are regular for 2 hours. I'd never make it on time if I didn't.
  • Well it was definitely false labor because baby is not here yet lol I timed one of the contractions and it lasted 45 seconds but it took at least 45 minutes for another contraction. I didn't feel like making a 30 min drive to the hospital so I called the doctors office and talked to a nurse. She informed me that a lot of movement was good during a contraction which was my main concern. (crazy because all I feel today is slight nudges)  She also confirmed its signs of early labor! Hopefully I will be a little dilated tomorrow!!
