2nd Trimester

Spd

Does anybody else have? Or previously had spd? How did you deal with it and did you have to have extra time off work. I went to the doctors today and he said other than paracetamol there's not much he can do really, but also said if it gets much worse then I will have to stop work early!

Re: Spd

  • Any advice welcome, thankyou!

  • 5th baby here... and I have no idea what spd is.
  • Sorry I probably should have explained ..its symphysis pubic dysfunction ..basically extreme groin pain to the point I can't walk without struggling and my movement is restricted
  • I have it on one side which makes walking difficult. Lifting makes it worse. I've heard pregnancy belts can help but it didn't help me at all. Basically just rest on the couch, try not to lift, always keep your legs together in movement (put on pants etc sitting down, get out of your car with both legs). I've also heard sleeping with the pillow between your legs can help but I haven't noticed too much of a change. I generally prop myself up and sleep on my back to give my hips and pelvis rest.
  • That's great @Achae Thankyou very much :) I will give those a go and hope it improves! Thankyou

I've had it with every pregnancy - first time it was worst at night when j was trying to get out of bed to pee, or when I was trying to put my pants on, etc. It went away with birth. With my second baby, it started earlier and was worse, so much worse. I was on crutches for the last few weeks of my pregnancy bc it was so unstable I couldn't walk without excruciating pain. Once again, birth resolved it. With my third baby it started *even* earlier, and I absolutely panicked. Chiropractic care m helped me some, and I tried wrapping my hips, much like a support belt would do. I also got some massages from my doula (she did work on my pelvic/pubic area, applying pressure and using hip squeeze techniques), and I used heated rice packs on my crotch It actually slacked off some and got better in the few weeks before birth, thankfully, however it was still incredibly painful to get up from the bed, or to roll over, or to put pants on. Basically anything that had my weight shift from one side to the other. I didn't end up on crutches though! I'm 18w now, and it hasn't started yet, so I'm feeling really optimistic! I've kept up with my chiro, so maybe that's helping? Good luck. I have so, so much empathy. SPD (and a milk bleb, yikes!) is the most painful thing I have experienced, and that includes unmedicated childbirth.

  • Thankyou @oceanchild, that's exactly when mine feels worse, and I'm walking terribly already at 26 weeks. I'm glad yours went with birth, hopefully mine will too as it's horrendous. I will try the heated rice pack and see if that makes a difference for me. Thankyou for your help ☺️
