Knitting/sewing/crocheting baby items?

I have been hit by the nesting urge, so I have started knitting again. At this point, I've made a hat and booties set, with 1/2 of another set completed. Other projects in the works are leg warmers, wool soaker diaper covers, changing pads and some washable cloth wipes.

Anyone else going the DIY route for baby items?

Re: Knitting/sewing/crocheting baby items?

  • Oh definitely :D I'm actually working on a bear hooded sweater right now. I've already made a sweater, a onesie, and a pair of pants. I mostly crochet but I sew a bit as well. Here is the sweater that I'm done. Moosling is the closest sized stuffed animal I have to a baby so he gets to model all my stuff ;) We are team green so keeping it gender neutral has been kind of tricky but it's all good :D I've found lots of free patterns for awesome stuff on Craftsy. Pinterest has some good links too :D

I love your little booties btw they look like they would be really easy to put on and wouldn't come off right away :D

  • I am working on a blanket. I'm crocheting it. That's all I know how to do but at least it will keep bab warm when baby gets here.
  • Yep I crochet! I'm in the middle of making a blanket.
  • I crochet baby blankets. I have been working on a few for presents for others who are expecting. About to start hopefully on this babies blanket.
  • Here's my newest addition ;)! I am obsessed with crocheting baby items. My little one probably already has at least 15 beanie hats and several blankets too ;).
Ohhhh I love that blanket. It looks super soft :D

  • Wish I could crochet that would be awesome. I can sew and have been thinking bout doing each of my twins a blanket but not overly positive as I don't have much energy
  • @jfritschie87 do you have an etsy shop? I was looking for a hat just like that, I'd totally buy any of your stuff or the other posters on this threads stuff. You are all amazingly talented!
  • I knitted for the last baby, but honestly we ended up with so many cute items that were from close family members (and so carried emotional significance) that she barely wore the hats/used the blankets that I made. Thinking of knitting a sweater for my dog when I feel crafty this time, instead. At least I know that'll be used!

But I love all of your ladies' projects! Absolutely adorable!!!
  • I have actually crochet 2 blankets and I am going for the 3rd one! First time doing this my dog is modeling the size lol. I will wash it before baby is born.

@sarahbeara25 - they are made out of Pima a Cotton :)! I have made several of these blankets for friends and on etsy too :)!! The yarn is imported from Peru and super soft :). I have a green one too!

  • Husband and I painted the nursery and the mural in the picture.  Right now I am sewing a hot air balloon mobile out of felt.  I saw one I loved on etsy but it was $250, which was way out of my price range.  I am also going to make up a quick fleece blanket (it is these cartoon vikings that my husband loves) and that will be his official father/son snuggle blanket.  Aside from that, I have a number of friends who do costumes for conventions so I have been busy helping them out and also working on centerpieces for the baby shower.

@jfritschie87 that tiny little sea turtle is so adorable.  Props to you!
  • I've finished one blanket and am working on another (knitting) and I plan to knit a sweater and booties. I am also working on a needlepoint nightlight.
