I barely shave my legs anymore let alone do landscaping. They've seen it all I'm sure so I'm not too concerned. Not taking a video or anything either so there's that as well. But easiest might be to have it professionally waxed if it is something you are concerned about, that way you know it's done well (make sure you pick a place that has a good record/reviews).
After my girlfriend gave birth a few months ago, she regaled me with a tale of trying to manage "bloody, dreadlock pubes." Defuzzing feels like something to do for myself, and not out of modesty with the L&D staff. I have not been maintaining recently, but I'm going to get the husband's help. I'm thinking getting the undercarriage as hair free as possible is the way to go!
I've been practicing shaving 'blind' since I found out I was pregnant! I remember my friends stories about realising the state of their bikini lines after and I've always been concerned! I can now shave without looking and have managed to navigate around my bump so far
I get waxed once a month and will definitely be going a little before my due date! However, if you've never been waxed before I don't recommend starting now because not only does it hurt the first time in general, it's even more sensitive down there being pregnant due to all the blood flow.
FYI if you end up with a c/s they shave what they need to beforehand anyway. I'm keeping up the basic maintenance but I'm not worried about how it looks. I think I'll be too concerned about other things at the point that doctors and nurses are down there to worry about it. 8-}
I actually read a compelling argument for shaving. My hospital will do it for me if I ask. They explained that if you need exterior stitches they can be much less unpleasant if there aren't hairs in the area being pulled. I'll probably try to get it as short as I can and if it's too hard ask them to clean it up for me.
Wow, I had not even considered the complication of stitches and hair down there! I haven't waxed for years, but maybe I'll do it beforehand, just to make it easier for that. (If I can psych myself up for the discomfort of waxing again, that is!)
I didn't think about having "bloody dreads" down there afterwards!! Man, I wasn't planning on it since I don't have much down there to begin with, but I'm definitely reconsidering!
I didn't shave/ wax before and I didn't have any bloody dread issues. But I did have an episiotomy so I was rinsing around the stitches a couple of times a day to keep the threads from getting dry and tight.
The whole bloody pube/dread thing is not something us nurses worry about. I have taken care of plenty of ladies having a period. It's not a big deal for us. It's an assumption people make, usually they aren't in health care. We, as nurses, do not care. Nurses will be checking you multiple times to see how your bleeding is because your OB wants to know c/s or vaginal delivery. It's part of post partum after care. Shaving and waxing should only be done if that's what you want. We don't care.
I shaved a little a day or two before I gave birth, I thought I would be worried about it but when you're in labor you suddenly no longer care how you look down there. The nurses and doctors have seen it all before so don't worry to much about it. I would recommend keeping it trimmed though, just because of the bleeding afterwards it's easier to clean since you'll be sore.

**Lurker** This is going to be super weird, but check with your OB and/or ask what your hospital's policy is on the tour if you take one. I've heard through TB of some hospitals actually preferring that you do no lady-scaping beforehand.
I wouldn't recommend getting a wax if its not something you regularly do.
However, I shaved mine and it was more for the postpartum bleeding factor than what the hospital staff would see. I didn't want to deal with bloody pubic hair after giving birth.
This. I wax regularly, but it's not something I would start while pregnant.

Thank you! There was a Labor and Delivery nurse on my previous birth month board who posted that she was grossed out when women came in without shaving and my thought was how can a nurse be disgusted by body hair of all things. It seemed like maybe she was in the wrong profession.
I never gave it much thought! After reading this I intend to make sure I keep things in order down there, and do a final pass as I get close! The whole blind shaving thing because of a bump is made WAY easier by an electric razor, I discovered this about a week ago. Shaving cuts down there weren't something I wanted to experience!
Re: Wax or shave before birth?
Seriously, though, they won't care and I imagine your SO isn't thinking sexy thoughts anyway, so do whatever you want for you.
