morning sickness in a huge office?

(before anyone attacks me, I lurk and I've searched...)

I've read all the tips how to manage the morning sickness and I travel heavy w preggy pops, crackers, ginger chews and so on...

I work in a pretty large office of about 100 people, most of whom are women. we have two bathrooms, one is a 5 stall communal and the other is a single in the front of the building in the lobby. not many people know I am pregnant and I am trying to keep a low profile. the front bathroom is anything but soundproof and obviously a multi stall is pretty much not private at all.

i hate throwing up and I have anxiety over the entire thing which is magnified by trying to keep this a secret since I had a m/c in January and a lot of people knew and I'm not exactly rushing to tell anyone now...does anyone else have this issue at work with a lack of privacy? any tips?

Re: morning sickness in a huge office?

  • Just saying...when people state that other threads of this content are already up & that someone would try searching first...that's not "attacking".

  • I've gotten a weird tone from reading other posts. just felt I would give a disclaimer in case I missed anything :)
  • I'm sorry you are going through this. It seems like all the ideas for curbing morning sickness have been thrown out there in other threads. I suppose you could make a fake "Out of Order" sign and hang it on the bathroom door when you go in? I'm not sure what advice you are looking for, but F/X for you that you can keep it a secret and that your m/s eases up. As most of us can empathize--it's not fun :(

lol I don't exactly know what I'm looking for either! I think just stories of reassurance from people going through it. the out of order is a good idea though, thanks!
  • I saw someone mention the other day that if you're starting to feel bad, head outside for fresh air instead of to the stinky bathroom. Have you actually been throwing up? Going to the bathroom may trigger something, but maybe taking a snack outside for a minute (if you're allowed to at your office!) would be better and ease your anxiety.

  • P.S. I know that doesn't exactly solve your bathroom problem but I read your post assuming that throwing up isn't happening yet and you're thinking ahead to when it might. Sorry if I misunderstood and wasn't any help haha!

  • I worked in a big law firm when I was pregnant with my girls. I hated getting sick at work. Like you, I had previous miscarriages and wanted to keep it quiet. The thing is once you are at that vomitting point, there's not much to stop it. I would just keep continuously flushing and try to be as quiet as possible. When there was someone in there, I'd just wait until they left then I would leave the stall. Good luck, it's the worst!

no you're right on the money!!! good idea too, thank you! especially now that it's getting cool outside it SHOULD definitely help. I was on the edge last night all of a sudden, I hate throwing up and I give myself a panic attack every time so I'm just trying to plan ahead because with my luck it will come full force tuesday.
  • Fingers crossed that you can avoid it!!
