Raspberry Leaf tea to induce labor naturally?

Anyone have an experience to share?

Re: Raspberry Leaf tea to induce labor naturally?

  • Haven't heard of it being used to induce. My midwife has had me taking the pills and drinking the tea the whole pregnancy to prep for labor.
  • Loading the player...
  • Ok good to know, when you search natural ways to induce labor this tea seems to be on every list! Lol
  • Have a look around the board, we already had lots of discussions about it ;-)
  • I started the capsules, and brought up to my ob and he suggested I stop taking them because to much can cause contractions. I was also taking evening primrose oil.
  • My friend starting taking it at 37w and her water broke at 38. I think though it only works if you are already ready to go... I read on the box that it just helps ease labor. I may take it just so my body is prepared, I don't think it really "induces"
  • both of my babies were over due my first son went over 11 days and my daughter 8 days. they were both induced. i tried drinking rasberry tea , ginger tea , cinnamon tea , spicy food , went to disney world to walk around and did alot of walking around the neighborhood . my ob told me about nipple stimulation and (sorry for the tmi) but sex life was very active ... i came to a conclusion the baby will come when they are ready .

Raspberry leaf tea helps to tone the muscles of your uterus, to help it to work better during labour. It doesn't induce labour. The idea is not so much to speed up your labour, but to help it to progress at a nice, steady pace.
It's recommended that you start when you're about 32 weeks pregnant and not before.
My MW suggested I started drinking it from 35wks starting with one cup a day, gradually increasing to three cups. I drank 3 cup everyday right up until I went into labour. Not sure if the RLT worked or had any thing to do with my labour, but it was a quick labour.
You will get some BH while drinking it. But if you get strong BH after drinking the tea, cut down on the amount you drink, or stop taking it.
  • I asked my dr about it and he just kind of laughed. He said to go for it, but he doesn't think it'll do anything :) I'll drink it just so I think I'm helping, makes me happy haha!
  • Raspberry leaf tea makes no difference. I have been having it loads and didn't even get BH. Tastes good thou :-)
  • RTL can't hurt, and it tastes good so I'm doing it! It's supposed to help your uterus shrink back after birth and stimulate lactation as well - so why not?!
I'm also trying Evening Primrose oil orally and internally, it's supposed to help ripen your cervix. At very least the internal capsule should help moisturize you making it more stretchy down there. My OB approved.
  • I love tea, so when my OB told me it could help strenghten my uterus and might be a good idea to drink a few cups a day, i picked some up. I've not been noticing any changes, but it's very tasty for sure. If there's a chance it actually helps during labor, well, it cant hurt as long as your ob/midwife isnt saying no! :)
