I really just want a glass of wine

We went out to a lovely little Italian restaurant tonight and had some delicious charcuterie and cheese. Of course everyone orders wine and Oh. My. God. It smelled DIVINE. I literally kept sticking my nose in people's glasses to sniff it (oh okay, I had a couple small sips, too!).

You guys, now I want wine so bad. I miss it. Seven more months seems like forever.

Is it possible to have wine in the delivery room? I'm thinking I'll want to start, uh, "celebrating" right after the baby's born.

Re: I really just want a glass of wine

  • Lol..... that should be standard procedure in all the L&D rooms

  • I'm missing wine for sure. I'm more of a beer drinker, but I've found some acceptable non-alcoholic beer. Sparkling grape juice just isn't gonna do it, I don't think...

  • Has anyone tried any non alcoholic wine? Not like welch's or anything like that, but stuff that actually tastes like wine. I think there are a couple decent brands out there, but I've never personally had them.

  • I have some Fre Chardonnay in the fridge. It goes over well for the first split second but doesn't quite have the same result taste-wise. I miss wine too :(
  • I'm in the wine industry and it is KILLING me not to have a glass, I miss it so much! I'm just smelling every glass my husband drinks and when I'm out with sales reps I'm tasting wine and spitting it out in a glass (a lot of my clients do that when they have to sample a lot of wines in a day)... I've heard Fre makes a sparkling now I wonder if it's good...
  • I'm not a wine drinker, but I miss beer.   Before pregnancy I'd only drink maybe two or three (four at the most) beers a month.  Tonight we went to Mexican restaurant for supper and DH ordered  Dos Equis with a lime wedge.  OMG!  Usually I think beer stinks, but that Dos Equis smelled exquisite!  I may or may not have taken just a couple of sips.   First thing I'm going to do after the baby is born and I get to the point where I can drink again, I'm going to order me a big mug of Dos Equis.

  • I'm with you. I bartended tonight and was surprised that I missed all the booze. I actually loved the smell of it all, especially the wine. Which is a good thing, because if I had an aversion to the smell of alcohol it would make my job pretty miserable.

I will indulge in a mini glass of wine here and there in third trimester. Last pregnancy a few sips chilled me right the eff out as I freaked over labor anxiety. :)
  • I had to pretend sip my way through wine club this weekend since we're not telling anyone yet. With DH's help we made it through the night without anyone asking, although who knows what they said after we left. I didn't miss the wine since I was so focused on keeping our secret. But man oh man do I miss wine with cheese. It's my favorite combination. I plan to do as the french do and enjoy a glass here and there once I'm further along, but until then I'll just suffer in silence.

Also coffee, I really, really miss coffee.

  • I miss beer. I'm sad to be missing Pumpkin beer season.

  • I thought it's ok to have a glass a day.

I don't drink much, so I don't miss it, but I was told drinking a glass (like, 3-4 oz) is fine throughout pregnancy.

Talk to your doctors, I guess?
  • My last pregnancy, I took a few sips but it's not the same. I was telling my husband last night that I MISS alcohol so bad. Mimosas, Bloody Mary's, beer, margaritas....*sigh*.

  • The smell of wine makes me want to hurl right now. :-& Buuuuuuut I just love the smell of beer. Whenever H has a beer I stick my nose in it. I am avoiding all alcohol during my pregnancy, so no sips for me, but the smell is wonderful.
  • I am really not a big drinker but the last 2 weeks, I have been craving red wine. At dinner on Saturday, I was eyeing everyone's glasses of wine around me. Ugh.
  • I've been having the Fre merlot. Tastes like grape juice though like in communion. I have snuck in a couple of small pours of the real stuff a couple times. Not going to make it a habit though. I feel a little guilty.
  • Coffee... I'm still having one cup every morning. Need to go purchase the decaf!
  • I caved and had a small glass of slightly watered down Merlot last night. I have been really stressed. I am not really a wine person (I love beer!) but I felt like it would make me happy, calm me down, and I was realllly craving it. It did make me happy- wish I could have had more  :-S
  • I had a glass of wine this past weekend. Drank it over the course of 2 hours. No regrets!
  • I miss red wine SO SO SO much!!! Wine and cheese/charcuterie is the best. omg. Can't wait until I can be like this:

  • I had one or two small glasses a week in 2nd and 3rd tri of my first pregnancy.  No regrets.  I had a small pour of guiness last weekend and it was the best thing ever, but my heartburn is way too bad at the moment to consider wine.

Me too! They say 200mg a day is allowed so I'll probably stick with a cup a day. :)
  • Another fun thing if you choose to go with a glass a week - you can justify buying a way nicer bottle than you normally would.

  • At one of the local hospitals, they give the parents a nice dinner the day after the baby is born complete with champagne. I think I might have my hubby sneak some wine in the day I deliver ;)
  • Not drinking personally until beb arrives, but the minute I bought a cube of wine from Target, I got KU. It's still in the fridge taunting me! I should just throw it away. DH only drinks red wine and I only drank white (red gives me migraines) so it's just sitting there... Lol!

  • I feel your pain! Right before I found out we bought our wedding wine which is very hard to find. I took the test the next morning. Guess it will be our celebratory wine in about 8 months lol
  • I'm so happy I'm not the only one feeling this way!

Sadly my OB is very against drinking at all. Even non-alcoholic stuff. I may have he occasional glass once I'm further along, although my SO will probably kill me....

Why is he against you drinking non-alcoholic wine? I'm in the everything in moderation camp and will enjoy a glass occasionally.

  • I have always said that it's like I'm on a diet during pregnancy (no wine or beer calories!). Tonight I had a committee meetings with a bunch of moms from school and everyone was drinking wine. It smelled SO GOOD.
  • I miss wine, beer, sparkling wine!!! I wish I just would have taken advantage right before pregnancy. My class reunion is coming up and I know everyone will be sipping on wine and bubbly stuff, not fair
