DIY Christmas Ideas?

I'm a pretty crafty person, and this year DH's family is doing a DIY Christmas. We're trying to keep costs low what with baby coming and all and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas they'd like to share. The plan so far is Toques and Headbands because I crochet. If anyones got some neat ideas though I kind of want to branch out and try different things.

  • I'm making bottle cap snowman ornaments with my kiddos for everyone. Last year my cousin did homemade sugar hand scrub that was really nice I've seen recipes on pintrest.

  • Pinterest is a gold mine for this sort of thing! Sugar cookies is an easy and cheap gift to make also.

  • I've taught my girls, 11 and 8, to do string art. They are going to make those for their teachers and coaches as gifts this year.
  • Edible gifts are the way forward, there's loads of ideas of you just google it. When I was a teenager I made chocolate coated peppermint and put them in jars that I decorated and put cute "hats" on - I was skint but wanted to give out grist as presents to all my friends like all the other kids did. I expected a eww or a wtf response but they loved them. I had them all asking for more. Xx
  • My sister crocheted me a gigantic scarf one year and I still love it to this day because it's a lot bigger than store scarfs (in width and length). If you're getting away from crocheting, there are some cool yet practical sewing projects you could get into like pot warmers, oven mitts, kettle cozies, etc. I have oven mitts shaped like cupcakes that I bought off Etsy and still love to thia day. The pattern seems super easy to recreate...
  • 2 years ago I sewed little Christmas trees out of Christmas fabric and decorated with some jewels. I wrote year and stuff on back. Last year I made salt dough ornaments n wrote people's last names on them and froe year n stuff on back to give away. NO clue what this year will bring as we r expecting the twins lol
  • So I received as a host gift for a Christmas party a few years ago a square clear glass box that has a hole carved out of the bottom middle (they are sold like that - I can't remember if it is Home Depot or Michaels that the woman bought them from), with a short string of Christmas lights stuffed inside with the cord hanging out to be plugged in and a beautiful ribbon on the outside of the box. I plug it in and use it as a gorgeous decoration (it looks like a lit up Christmas present).
  • I made these a few years ago for godparent gifts. I bought the glass blocks at Hobby Lobby and the lights from Michaels. It's fun because you can decorate however you want. I did wired ribbon and then bought some glittery fake leaves, sticks, Christmas ornaments and hot glued them on. You can be as creative as you want.

  • @62406 ooh thanks! Just looked at hobby lobby - these are even better because it looks like the hole is in the back https://www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-&-Hobbies/Glass-Crafting/Glass-Containers/Deco-Blok-Glass-Block-with-Hole/p/MF50400
