Yup. Well the first 2 weeks, we are not actually pregnant (since they count from the first day of your last period). so it's more like 38 weeks....
My mom used to say to us that she carried me and my triplet sisters for 10 months and kept us in as long as she could to make sure we were healthy. I used to think she was crazy when I was in middle school haha! I told her that we learned in school that you're pregnant for 9 months . She said.. I carried your two older sisters and you triplet girls.. . I of all people would know that it's 10 months!
Only one month is 28 days, the rest are 30-31 days. If you are pregnant for 40 weeks, that is 280 days, divide that by 31 and you get 9 months. These last weeks will fly by, especially with all the holidays coming up!
Math, please. Months average 4.4 weeks. There is only one month with exactly 28 days and we can essentially ignore it because we won't be pregnant during it. 40÷4.4=9.09 and if you don't count the first two weeks when you're technically not pregnant yet 38÷4.4=8.63. Not 10 months in any case.
I agree that's it's 9 months, but because the way the weeks are, it's just tricky with all the debates about when the 3rd trimester actually starts! Since my due date (1/9) was 3 months from yesterday, I'm gonna go with that and celebrate being in the 3rd trimester!
Ya I did a count and it's 9 calendar months ish. Conceived mid April, birth in January. My count gives me 9 months. But yea it is 10 4 week months. My mum always stressed that with my cousins and everyone that had babies before me so when she mentioned it to me I wasn't too crushed lol
I'm a nurse and before I became a nurse I was planning on becoming an OBGYN. It's 10 months. 4 weeks in a month. If you say 4 weeks to a doctor, they will tell you a month.
It is not 10 months- for heavens sake. Do we estimate that there are 4 weeks per month? Sure, but on the larger scale ther is always (except Feb), a couple extra days. there are 52 weeks in a year 52/4= 13 but no one thinks there are 13 months in a year because there are 12 months in a year. Period. But for some reason when discussing pregnancy length we all lose our minds. lol
Can we just use weeks? When someone looks at me weird I say a little over halfway there (I'm 25 + 4). I seriously keep track of the weeks so it's easiest for me. They can do the math lol

Oh lord, are you serious? I conceived May 8th - my baby is due January 29th. Look at a calendar - it's 9 months!

You're obviously not a nurse or you'd understand! Oh my.

Um, no. Being a nurse (while super amazing and deserving of the utmost respect) does not give anyone the ability to change calendars or math. 40 weeks (and especially 38, the actual length of gestation from conception to EDD) is not 10 months. It's just not. Unless there are 13 months in a year and 28 days in the average month, the math just won't work.
Maybe nurses use 4 weeks to measure a month. Super strange to me, but I'll accept that because obviously you'd know better than me. It still doesn't actually make 40 weeks 10 months according to a calendar or math.

Funny, because when we fill prescriptions from the same doctors they don't send 28 and 84 day supplies for one and three months, they send 30 and 90.
There are 52 weeks in a year, and 12 months. 52/12 = 4.3 weeks, on average, per month
9 months x 4.3 weeks = 38.7 weeks
Gestational time is based off of 40 weeks from your last menstrual period. Ovulation rarely happens at the same time as your period, so generally speaking, you aren't actually pregnant for the first couple of weeks. This means that the length of time from conception to your 40 week mark is actually closer to 38 weeks of gestation, which is right around nine months.
