Re: Charlie horses

  • I've been getting them during the middle of the night. I'm so out I hate waking up with sore calves the next day.

  • I just got my first one last night, I'm 25 weeks today with baby #2. I got them consistently from about 25 weeks to delivery with my first. This was one symptom I was hoping to skip this time around!! Ugh!!! Nothing I did last time around seemed to help, it was simply a nightly thing!
  • I heard you should eat a banana every day to help
  • Got them a lot when I was pregnant with ds and have been getting them off and on with this pregnancy too. I only really get them during the night though, but like a pp said, they wake me up and I have sore calves the next day lol
  • Potassium and magnesium. The one night I forgot to take my magnesium supplement I got the worst Charlie horse ever. My DH said he thought I was in labor I was screaming so badly.
  • Bananas + stay hydrated + bend your foot towards your body when you feel it coming on - that's what has worked for me!

This!! And even stand up and put weight on your leg! :)
  • I get cramps in my feet and standing up works best. No leg cramps yet.
  • Yes.  One woke me up the other night at like 3 AM.  It felt like someone punched me in the calf.  I've upped my water intake and I haven't had any issues since then (knock on wood).

  • I've woken up the last two nights with these. My calves are so sore and and it's ruining my sleep. Ugh.
  • Yes happened to me last night, it was so painful!! I thought it was caused by sitting in a 12 hour meeting and not getting enough water....either way it was not FUN! OUCH!!!
  • Try spraying magnesium oil on your legs at night, it is a life changer.
  • I got them alot with my first but so far i havent gotten any maybe its all the bananas I've eatin so far
  • Water water water! And that moment when you feel it about to happen carefully flex your foot. Never point it (your instinct is to point, but don't)! I learned that a year ago (used to get Charlie horses a lot) I have never had one since.
  • Definitely flex toward your body! I get them all the time and the first night I was so tired and couldn't think how to make my body move to make it stop. Now it's a regular thing and I let it stretch a little and then pull my feet back into a flexed position.

  • Yep, same here... the other day I got one in my foot???? it hurt soooo bad.
  • I've read - to stretch out your leg with your toes pointing towards you - once it's happening. Along with consuming some milk, bananas....
  • So helpful everyone!!!!
  • Yes, basically every time I stretch my feet in bed I get calf cramps. The worst!!

I just got one last night and the night before in the same leg in the middle of the night! Happy I'm not the only one waking up with a sore leg! My mothers advise definitely helps. Point your heel out and toes up towards you!
  • I've been getting them in my foot. I'm walking them a shooting pain wraps around my arch and heal. :(
  • Omgoodness! My sister warned me about these and boy are they bad. Thanks for all the helpful tips ladies!
  • Starting at about 18 weeks I was getting them every night like crazy, but the doc recommended drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day (for my amniotic fluid, not the Charlie horses) and I haven't gotten one since I started doing that!

  • I only get them when I stretch my feet or legs
  • I got one last night and it was horrendous. My calf is still sore. I hate how defenseless you are when it's happening!
