Big Boobs & BACK PAIN

My back has been killingggggg me where my bra strap goes.

I've tried 4 different bras, got bra extenders and nothing is working. My midday I feel like i've been hit in the back with a baseball bat. I used to have this pain back in the day in college when I was a rower.

Has anyone else had any similar pain? What has worked for you? I'm seeing my doctor on Tuesday to see if she has any recommendations for maybe some strengthening exercise? Any tips are greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Big Boobs & BACK PAIN

  • Is it the back strap, or the shoulder straps?
And you definitely think it's muscular, and not from your bra being too tight?

  • I was having the same issue until I ordered these from Amazon . Soo comfortable , yet supportive . And bonus can be used for nursing when baby gets here . Well well worth the 15$

It sounds like you are not wearing the correct bra size. I would suggest going to Nordstrom's or a similar store where they will size you appropriately. A good rule of thumb is that your measurement around (under your boobs) is your band size, the number of inches from that where the fullest part of your breasts are will determine cup size. So if your band size was 34 inches, and your breasts were 35, you would be a size A. You can google around for good charts on this. But a professional could really help! And don't go to Victoria's Secret, their sizes are awful. Signed, someone who has been every cup size from B to JJ.

  • I second what @claireloSC said. Get yourself sized. And once you get your proper size, a good supportive bra will be your best friend. You may need wider shoulder straps to help support so the back strap isn't taking all the weight. Big boobs can be a real pain (pun intended) but a supportive, properly sized bra can help so much!
  • I've been having the same issue and I was fitted for a bra and I honestly don't feel that's my issue. I went up one cup size but Ive noticed my back hurting when I'm on my feet a long time. I feel like it's just maybe from the strain from our bellies growing? I don't know for sure. Let us know what your doctor says if you don't mind!
  • I know I have the right size bra as I have been getting sized forever as I've always had big boobs and a tiny rib cage and used to going to the expensive stores in order to have proper support.

I think that's why I'm so frustrated because I'm not sure what else to do. Besides counting down the minutes until I can sit on my couch at home and take my bra off lol.

I'll be sure to let you know what my doc says. I know there is some exercises I've done in the Past that have helped but don't know if Im allowed to do those now.

I'll be checking back to see what the doc says. I have similar pain and have also been measured recently. Previously, I'd have my husband pick me up and give my back a squeeze and it'd pop (super safe, right?).

Of course I cannot do that now. I've really considered seeing a chiropractor. I have a feeling it is a spine alignment issue with the changing body.

    Make sure to update. =)

  • I'm having Similar pain and I'm most certainly wearing the correct size bra. I'm just chalking it up to yet another pregnancy pain... I It may simply also be my enormous boobs. But all my bras are new and correctly fitted. It gets so bad at times almost sharp pains other times it's a dull ache, I find massage really helps. Maybe book in for one??

Something you said about having a tiny rib cage made me think... Don't forget that your ribs have to stretch too, maybe even that could be the source of the pain? Just a random thought! Anyway, I promise a good massage will help.
  • My back hurts, but not because of my bra. It's because I sit in an office chair all day, and while my body has changed, the chair hasn't.
We invested in a Q-Flex Pressure Point tool, and both my hubs and I use it. It's easy to get those tough spots right below your shoulder blades without hurting yourself.

I question the bra size because you said you're using bra extenders - those don't help if your bra actually fits. The band should give most of the support, so straps shouldn't hurt. Prenatal yoga had helped me stretch out my back and get some relief. I also sleep exclusively on my left side with a pillow between my legs and that helps too.

  • Okay, I was dealing with this! Pre-preg I was a 32C and now I'm a 34DD and still growing because I'm only 24 weeks.... My boobs EXPLODED (or it feels like they did) and it caused a lot of extra strain on my back that my muscles weren't used to and created SO much tension. I threw a Hail Mary and got a $30 Groupon for a therapeutic massage. My back has not hurt since. It was even so bad to the point where I was having muscle spasms and couldn't sit up straight because my body just wouldn't let me. It helped me SO much.
  • I have somethingsimilar it sounds like. I swear my ribs expand during the day, I have bra bands from 38-42 and I have actually started packing the 42's and changing at lunch. If I put on the bigger ones in the morning they are way to big, but changing midday keeps me more comfortable until I can get home. Not sure this is something normal people wouldever need to do, but it helps me :)
  • Yeah I find I adjust the extender midway through the day. I had yoga tonight which helped and she suggested that I try a belly band and do some cat/cow stretches everyday and use a foam roller between my shoulder blades.
  • I am having the same pain! I also have big boobs with a small rib cage. I was a 32DDD pre-pregnancy and haven't been measured since becoming pregnant. My boobs are definitely fuller & heavier. It comes and goes.... But so far stretching, massage & chiropractic adjustments have provided some relief

Yes! I went from a b cup to an F and slouched already so my back pain was bad for a while. Have you heard of kinesiotape? My hubby is a PT so there's ways they can apply it that help to pull your shoulders back but also support your belly and lower back. It was night and day for me. I could wear the same tape for a few days (it stays on even through the shower) and as soon as I'd take it off, I'd notice a difference. So call around to some pt's in your area and ask if they can help. My hubby even did a presentation to the whole staff at the OBs office bc she's so impressed by it. Hope this helps!
  • I started seeing my chiropractor once a week starting at 18 weeks because I was having such horrible back pain. I also have a large chest and seeing my Chiro every week has been a total breakthrough and life saver. I can't recommend going to see one enough!!! A good bra will help, but if your spine is out of place, a new bra will not fix the problem.
  • Got a belly support band and haven't had any back pain! They are expensive ($70) but worth EVERY penny! Still gonna talk to my doctor about doing some PT to get some back strengthening exercises by the support band has been life changing. I also went to a bra speciality store to make sure I had the right size bras and I did.
