Activities to do with infant?

I know this sounds crazy, but I feel like a boring mom?! LOL I feel like I ran out of things to do to entertain my son. We read books, look outside, play on his activity mat, tummy time, lots of snuggles, I sing to him. The main thing is, I feel like he's always eating! That's the main thing we do, lol, and sleep. It's getting colder outside and windy lately, so we haven't been on our walks. I also carry him in the baby Bjorn and he likes it.

What do you do with your infant daily? What can I do to stimulate his brain? My son is 4 weeks old, also!

  • Yup I agree you're already doing plenty. We barely even have awake time other than feeding and changes over here at 3 weeks. Once they're awake and engaging more then you can start a little more but they don't require much more until about 3 months.
  • Enjoy this time. They don't move and don't need much other than food and cuddles. Before long they will be all over the place and you won't get a seconds peace.

  • My three week old girl likes watching football, eating and sleeping. I'd say you're way ahead of the game.

My little guy already has HOURS in a row of awake time, multiple times a day. Maybe that's why I feel like I'm running out of things to do. Lol. He reaches for the fish on his activity mat, too(and anything I hang above him)! It's so fun to watch his eyes light up when he sees stuff!

Also, I DO have an infant. An infant is birth-1 year according to all medical terminology. A newborn is 28 days or younger. Mine is over that already.
  • We have a mobile on our pack n play for dd. It's like baby tv for her. She stares at it and kicks and wiggles and talks. I alternate time on her activity mat with this.
  • Glad for this post. When mine is up he seems to only want to eat or be cranky. I try to tummy he gets angry anything not with a bottle nipple in his mouth he's got an attitude. We do tummy time when he's in a rare curious mood
  • I honestly just narrate my day and talk to DS1.  I figure he gets enough stimulation just from day to day activities. Several times I day I do make sure to give him 100% focus and talk and giggle with him as much as I can.

We talk to her, make faces, listen to music, do tummy time, walk. Even though it doesn't seem like it, doing these things is stimulating her brain and she is learning a lot. We also do touch stimulation, like baby massages and tickles, playing with her hands and feet.

Edit: She's also discovering her voice and making sounds. So we mimic the sounds she makes, or make new sounds for her. She's also discovered her hands and sucks her fingers or tries to reach out to things, though her hand eye coordination is off still.
  • Enjoy this time. They don't move and don't need much other than food and cuddles. Before long they will be all over the place and you won't get a seconds peace.
Amen to this! Here LO sort of "tags along" with what big sister is doing. We had a tea party, and we've been reading lots of books. Singing happens a lot too, and we have DD#1 show LO the parts of her body. (Where is baby's nose? etc.)

  • I feel the same way but there isn't much more you can do at this stage.
