bowel movements

I know this isn't a great topic but it's my first pregnancy & I have questions I'm 24 so I have no idea is it normal I haven't used the bathroom in weeks should I buy something to make me go or is this common

Re: bowel movements

  • if you literally have not pooped in weeks, you need to see a doctor.

You really haven't pooped in weeks? Or is this an exaggeration?

You should call your doctor to get some relief as it's not normal to go this long without a bowel movement.

  • I would try prune juice, probiotic yogurt and drink loads of water. What works best for me is every two days I have a mix of 1/8cup of olive oil and 1/8cup lemon juice. It's also an amazing kidney stone remedy. If nothing changes soon you should probably see your Doctor about safe laxatives or something.
  • Be sure to drink tons of water, veggies, prune juice, good yogurt, and my dr said Colace is safe to take if necessary.

  • If it's really been a few weeks, as everyone else has said, I would talk to your doctor. I sometimes go a few days now (2-3) and that's unusual for me. I find it can be worse if I'm not drinking enough water though... Which I'm horrible about.
  • Everytime I do I feel a victory. Although not on my regular routine, maybe go a day without. Not going for a few weeks seems like your doctor needs to get involved.
  • Actually, this is a great topic. Poop is very important.

If you've tried all the above with no luck, definitely contact your doctor.

  • I've gone a little bit but I definitely feel like it should be alot more i don't have cramps or pains when I spoke to the doctor they said it was normal to have irregular bowel movements but thank you everyone for the input I really didn't want to use a laxative but I may have to just give In I drink tons of water but still it's not alot just a little bit here & there
  • All I know is I pooped today! The last time was on weds. It's a little victory.

Op not sure if this would help, but maybe try putting your feet on a bench or step stool when going. I've read that it's a more natural position for poohing... Helps is come out more. Sorry, tmi.

  • I can personally vouch for the putting your feet up on a prop!  It totally helps!  :)

  • I'm going once every 3-4 days which seems to be the best I can hope for as I'm totally hydrated and eating lots of fibrous foods. Super annoying but super normal during pregnancy. My doc said colace is safe to use if needed and I will definitely take it if I don't go for 5 days or more.
  • Sometimes they gave prenatals that are better for that. Look for ones without iron or with a bit of stool softener. My life has greatly improved since I switched to the chewables with no iron. My doctor also had suggestions for less constipation kinds or ones designed to help with constipation.
