Changes in fluid

I will be 36 weeks monday with my first. 3 days ago I started noticing a few wet spots once or twice a day ( not wet all day) in my underwear. I'm not sure if it's amniotic or other discharge. My next appointment is not for 5 more days. My AFI at 32 weeks was at a high 20, no contractions or signs of infection. Do I still call doctor in the am

Re: Changes in fluid

  • This can vary so much for individuals, I would ask your doctor.

  • 2 call doctor also I would put a pad on to watch how much fluid or discharge.
  • I've been noticing fluid too. It's very little so it's hard to tell what it is. I'm 36 weeks 4 days. I've also been experiencing a lot of period like cramping. But I was told my the nurse that it's because my body's muscles are working harder these days to carry baby.
  • 1) call the doctor for advise. 2) I get "discharge" atleast twice a day where i feel wet.

  • If you're ever questioning if you should call the dr or not, the answer is probably yes.

I had the same question last night, if I was leaking fluid or if it was just discharge, and i called the dr. It's a perfectly legitimate question. As a PP can said, we can't tell you what is discharge and what's fluid, every person is different.
  • Just an FYI- it's VERY rare for amniotic fluid to come out as a slow leak. And I promise when/if your water breaks you will know it. However, there is always a small chance your water breaking could be in the form of slow leak- but like it said-it's extremely rare. I am pretty sure you are experiencing discharge. It's very watery at the end. (Mine was with DS). But always call your Dr for reassurance.
  • Call your dr! I have called about this before and they were very helpful and put my mind at ease.

I was a rare case with DD1 and mine did leak. I will describe my experience.
Every time I moved especially from sitting to standing I would get a very small gush of clear fluid didn't smell at all. Even after getting up from toilet I would get these gushes. They where consistent through out the day. It wasn't one or two gushes it kept on happening. Honestly I don't think yours is leaking based on my experience.one or two gushes I would say is discharge not stop small leaks might be amniotic. I am not a doctor so you need to confirm with them.
  • I'm still not sure if I had a slow leak or what happened. My discharge changed to what LSroo mentioned and I did have some wet spots on my underwear but not all day long, like maybe 2-3 times a day.
I went at 36 weeks for a follow up growth scan and was sent right to the hospital. A week later I was induced for extremely low fluids. Scariest week of my life. Please go get checked if you're questioning anything. They should be able to swab you and check for a leak. They didn't even get that far with me since they were so dangerously low that I would have been induced regardless of the results.
