Our lo's acid reflux is so severe that she is hospitalized because she quit eating and was getting food in her airway; we were feeding her and keeping her upright and nothing was helping. She's been on medications, but they don't stop the reflux, they just reduce the acid in it. The speech therapist evaluated her while she was eating and gave us a new feeding position for her that I've never come across as recommended for acid reflux babies before. I wanted to share it because it has made a huge difference for her and I'm hoping it can help other mom's and babies on here who are also struggling.
Basically, we are feeding her on her side now: think Football nursing position at a slight incline. She is literally on her side. The reason for this is so that the milk pools in her cheek rather than the back of her throat. She is actually eating like a normal baby now! There is no gagging, congestion, tipping her head back, ect. This morning she took in 3 ounces easily. Where before we were struggling to get her to eat 2.
